My mind still has not been able to recover from the sheer amount of depth of the looting and equipment system, I mean all that forging, combining and upgrading is like a whole game by itself, sometimes I can spend 30+ minutes just going trough menus checking stats and figuring out combinations, this is my first game in the series and Im already addicted to it!

I've always been mildly curious about the Monster Hunter series but I never payed much attention. After watching these I played the Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate Demo and loved it. I kept hearing from different sources that MH4U was being considered the best in the series and the most friendly to new players, so I decided to pick it up. I'm now well over 70 hours of play and completely hooked. My DS hasn't seen this much use since Pokemon X and Y. Thank you, ProJared.

As weird as it sounds, I come back to these videos every now and then and they actually inspire me to go back and play MH. I love the franchise and these videos taught me a long time ago how to begin, and now, as a veteran Hunter, I really enjoy them for their simplicity and because a lot of people truly began their quest as Hunters due to them. So thanks, Jared, than you for introducing me to one of my now favorite videogame franchises of all time.

I don't need these (MH vet) but I watched them anyway just to see what a (I assumed) good tutorial beginners can have. I love your love for Monster Hunter and it really shows in these videos, such a great introduction to the series that the series itself cannot properly give and what I did not have when I started out. You should do some tutorials on the new mechanics of Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate (such as the mounting and aerial attacks). Anyway, great job on these, I wish you the best of luck!

Thank you, Jared, for making these. It was very informative for a greenie such as myself. I plan to buy the game very soon and I'll be getting my practice from the 3DS demo. I really like the feel of the Switchaxe. I understand it more or less but I'm uncertain if I'm missing any other important details of the weapon. Attack with axe to gather power and gain more mobility, and use the sword to trade mobility for additional power along side the power boost gained from the meter. If someone could aid me, I'd appreciate it
@DeviantMyphos10 жыл бұрын
There are great combos. X/A while in sword mode to sort of Drill into the monster which also causes an explosion. Do the same in Axe mode (and do this carefully around other players.) and you do a more powerful attack. Also if you get the WiiU version i'll gladly help you online. I've been needing some hunting buddies.
@alpharabbit235310 жыл бұрын
I actually mastered the Switch Axe long ago and only the sword has the energy blast attack. It probably would have also been useful to mention that you must mash X to finish the attack or pull down on the stick to finish early for less damage

What's that again? The Souls series, I mean.
@magnustherad359710 жыл бұрын
FEEL THE RATH the souls series includes developer FROM SOFTWARE's tittles demon's souls, dark souls and its sequel dark souls 2, and (likely) their upcomming game bloodborne. it shares some similarities with MH such stategic 3rd person hack and slash gameplay based around stamina management, and breaking pieces of certain bosses to get special items and weapons.
@3214lifelol9 жыл бұрын
Sachiel Otaku This game feels much slower than any of the Souls games though. Upgrading to a new improved character takes too much patience, and unlike most, I don't find Dark Souls repetitive when remembering this game. I have 100+ hours in this game (1/4th of the hours is probably just shutting the 3DS so all the minutes I put into ONE monster aren't in vain.) and I am only in HR 3 and on 7 stars in solo. It is so boring compared to Dark Souls and its innovated gameplay.

A slight correction to something mentioned in the video: Hunter Ranks (or HR). HR is only relevant for Port Tanzia, but I think you can gain HR points (only used after you beat the final urgent of Tanzia) by doing offline quests. In Moga Village, you are on a Star system, as you can see. Moving up in star ranks will not open up higher level Tanzia quests, and HR increases will not open up higher level village quests.

Being able to guard is a great boon to that particular weapon type. Also, one thing a lot of people overlook; the weapon's biggest weakness, having a harder time reaching higher areas of a monster, is also a kind of strength. When you aren't able to easily reach these areas, you'll tend to pay closer attention to their attack patterns as you search out the moments when the parts you want to hit are lowest. This greater attention to detail will help you fight them, and dodge them, better, faster.

To add to my last response to you; you've also generally got greater agility as a SnS user. There are going to be quite a few times when you'll be thankful that you don't need to sheath and unsheath to run out of the way or use items, and dodging mid-combo is a staple ability of that particular type that really comes in useful whenever facing, say, a monster like Brachydios, which is much better at fast attacks when raged, thus making quick dodges a very valuable ability.

Thanks a ton for these guides Jerad. I'd love to see you do a walkthrough of this game. Granted, I know this game ever actually ends, but it would be cool to see how you go about the game from the start =)

Never got into Monster hunter much, but damn, these guides are fantastic.

Jared this was so helpful. Before this I didn't understand why some monsters would suddenly become stronger and faster. I guess I just have to wait for them to calm down.

For being a complete noob to the series, capturing the Lagiacrus on my first try in the hunt "the lord of the seas" gave me a sense of satisfaction I haven't felt in a long while.

I like how I was interested in the games again when I saw your review, but the longer this entertaining series goes the more I realize I'd definitely hate playing this game.

Jared should do a guide on the monsters themselves. Like detailed breakpoints or how to fight certain monsters. That'll be extremely helpful.

I think the demo was the arena mode (or however it is called in english). There you get several weapons, armor and item sets that you can't modify. It is to challenge you without overpowered weapons or to try some strategies or weapons you wouldn't try in normal mode.

There are 7 Rarity level of Charms in game. Charms can be equipped to gain certain benefits such as help increase resistance or attack. You may only equip one charm at a time. There are charms that benefits the Blademaster class and vice versa.

The Deviljhos man... the Deviljhos... bane of my existence for my entirety of M.H. Tri. Even the Alatreon was cake compared to those dang things in my book. I would hide from those beasts, but you take on two by yourself? Bravo, sir, bravo. You are certainly more hunter than I.

they are easier in ultimate, i could handle one with high rank rathalos armour and the lagia LS upgraded once or twice

He wasn't doing that seriously. Double G-rank Deviljho with Lagia U and SnS is suicide.

Thanks a ton for making these. I'm only at the point where you fight Lagiacrus and I thought that jumping in the water and flailing about with my crappy bone sword was the only option.

Wuttup ZTRussel, skills become active when they reach their point threshold. When when Perception reaches it's activation point, which is +10, you will gain the Capture Guru skill. This allows you to see when a monster is ready to be captured, even before it starts limping! The monster's icon seen on the minimap (given that it has been painted) will flash indicating that it can be trapped n' tranq'd. As for armor, there are so many choices that you can pick what suits your needs/wants.
