Resting in old DnD is so insane. Lets take a short one week nap to fully heal. How do you even write a plot around these insanely long rests? No threat can be that threatening if you have to account for the heroes being out of comission for months.^^
@y2a19792 ай бұрын
In all honesty, the game expected you to die fairly often, thus removing the need to rest. :)
@SilimSavertin2 ай бұрын
Healing spells. Old DnD didn't give a crap about letting you play the game without a balanced party.
@Syenthros2 ай бұрын
Well, typically most adventures were meant to be one off stories that didn't really have any sort of time limit. Older D&D adventures were less about grand narratives and more about people seeking treasure, gaining power and smiting evil. Also most parties were expected to have a cleric, which could turn months of required healing into mere days.
@agsdedluxferre29552 ай бұрын
You often played multiple characters if it was that urgent. OSR does a great job of telling low fantasy stories where people without magical healing are often out of commission for months at a time before they recover and each wound is to be taken quite seriously. The slow healing factor in table play highly discouraged dungeon resting without a cleric which was the purpose. OSR is also more about delving into dungeons for treasure rather than spending 3 sessions listening to some guy monologue about how evil he is like a saturday morning cartoon. It's about the danger of monsters most of which arn't intelligent nor care enough to talk and simply want to kill the intruders within their dungeon. It was quite often you didn't conquer a dungeon without multiple delves and would spend 5-10 sessions just in the same dungeon.
@AxiomofDiscord2 ай бұрын
@@agsdedluxferre2955 I had a Call of Cthulhu game in which a guy was at the hospital for 10 days nursing a gunshot wound and still hurt, but his friends busted him out so he "wouldn't miss out on the action." Some systems are such a different experience. Also he was playing injured the whole time after that so yeah was not missing out but his character was suffering.

Charisma is a requirement for the Paladin and Bard class. That is all. EDIT: Also Druids, and maybe some races, because, yes there used to be stat requirement for some races.
@claudelarose88312 ай бұрын
In the TTRPG, Hammersham would have had a Maximum number of henchmen raised from 5 to 6, a Loyalty Base of +1 and a Reaction Adjustment of +2

I love how on the spot you made a backstory for Hammersham, yup that what us dwarves would do 😂
@Samael11132 ай бұрын
Bards and Paladins (and Druids which required bard levels) have a Charisma requirement IIRC. But that's only for Character Creation and Dual-classing. Beyond that, no idea what it does mechanically in this game.
@RoderickEtheria2 ай бұрын
Number of spells available per level maybe.
@Samael11132 ай бұрын
@@RoderickEtheria In first and second editions that was entirely under Wisdom (Cleric Spells) and Intelligence (Magic-User Spells). Charisma was mostly for random social checks and Henchman/Hireling max level and loyalty. Rules that if your party wasn't using, made it the stereotypical dump-stat for a reason. And few DMs used it because who wants to manage 20 extra NPCs every encounter?
@jordanpritchard52262 ай бұрын
*Gets out a tome* Ahem... A Meazel is a humanoid creature that wallows in self-pity and loathes itself, but responds with hostility if its lair is intruded upon with violent lashing attacks with its claws, followed by curses and possibly crippling illnesses. Commonly found in underground lairs, ruins, swamps and bogs, sewers, caverns, and sometimes found in crypts and catacombs. They were often thought to be Undead, but are truthfully alive creatures. If encountered, they will be found to be alone, but if encountered in a group, it is due to desperation and struggling to fend off attackers. Little known fact, they often use Rats and or Spiders to act like watchdogs or pets.

Correct. Charisma does nothing in this game, as there are no followers, no reaction adjustments, and none of the spellcasters use it as a spellcasting ability. Also, in AD&D, a shield only grants a 1 AC improvement, so that shield that does 3 AC is a +2 shield. Finally, being held in Dungeon Hack doesn't stop you from moving, only using items, so you didn't have to stand there and die.

Charisma mainly counts toward acquiring spells at the right levels for Bard/Paladin, as far as this game is concerned. It has no other stated functions according to either the manual or the Gold Box wikis. Most guides that talk about the classes that delve into Paladin/Bard don't really mention what CHA does. What I know mainly comes from personal experimentation of setting CHA to minimum on Bard and Paladin, and playing a long (and painful) dungeon for each one.
