Hi Melissa! I have been watching your videos off and on for about 12 years! I am now following along with you and others working through the Alan Revere Series on FB . Thank you for being willing to continue to learn and teach! Making this clasp is quite challenging! But I sincerely appreciate your humility and honesty as you work through these projects. I must compliment you on your piercing skills!!! Very nice!!!

This turned out great. Clasps were some of the first few this I've started out making when i first started. Yet, they are always a pain when i want something a bit more elaborate than a hook and eye or a t clasp etc. and i always ended up just buying pearl and lobster clasps etc. Buying them in silver isnt too expensive, but in gold or in a special design in silver it can get pricey. And like many have said before, with your videos explaining and showing the process from the book or other pieces has made it to where i am confident i can try a project out. I learn so much better to watch in action than to just read. So thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and the

Melissa this series is so helpful for a beginner jeweler. I was wondering if you had plans to finish the book in the future?

I don't know. They are really time consuming and some of them are still a bit advanced for me to be filming them. So we will just have to see. I am glad you have found them helpful.

Hi Melissa! I love watching your videos, as you work through Revere’s book. I even bought the book. My question is, why not use a disc cutter instead of sawing the circle out? For me, it makes a much more round, an uniform circle.

In this case it was because it is how Alan wanted it for the video. Not everyone has a disc cutter and will need to develop the skill of piercing. And sometimes the disc cutter doesn’t have the exact size needed.

May I ask what is a "Will hold?" Also, when you practice making these clasps, do you use your silver? Can I practice using a less expensive metal? You do amazing work!

You can definitely use a less expensive metal. It's actually recommended so as not to have any waste. Though, unless you use a bunch of solder, it wouldn't really be waste since it can be melted back down and reused. But in this case, using copper would be a good base metal to practice with. Plus, if it comes out good, copper is still pretty and used in jewelry still by many so you can always keep or gift, or even sell the practice one as well. Most of my copper pieces that i use as practice go to my family and friends. My daughters absolutely adore jewelry and they have a good collection of costume jewelry because of it. So theres really no waste no matter.lol
