Just lost my 02 996.2 engine. 50K miles. Devastated. Still owe on it. Gorgeous car. Still in the mourning process. Because it’s the ugly duckling due to the headlights, this car won’t increase in value among other reasons. Financially I don’t see where I’ll get ahead of the game (screwed less) by selling this off and going for a newer more dependable model. I love the Porsche drive and can’t see myself in a front engine car again for fun driving. Because of this, I’m not worried about the resale value to a purist. To me the Porsche isn’t about the engine, but more about the drive dynamic. I’m leaning towards the LS because I don’t think I can go through another round of this heartbreak and financial ruin should a rebuilt 996 fail again. At least with the LS, it’s a lot less expensive the second time around, if it were to fail at all. I really appreciate this video and am truly jealously thrilled you’ve been able to get a 3.8. I’m on hold mode at this point and being patient. Who knows what might present itself.

Now this is like a lot of them 987's having the same Rod Bearing problem, and as far as I know it was only a problem with S model.

Still haven’t made full build plans just yet. Actually went to assemble the bottom end this week but realized I ordered the wrong main bearings so now I’m waiting for parts 🤦‍♂️

Its funny because I have an Alpine White E90 M3 and a Black 987.1 Cayman S. I found your channel through searching 987 stuff however, as the 987 community is nowhere near as hardcore as the ///M community. Great channel guys keep it up.

I have a 2006 cayman with a 3.8 conversion and it's pretty fast...for me anyways. Can't even imagine adding a turbo. I'd probably wrap it around a phone pole.

Haha, it’s going to be pretty silly. Should be 500+ wheel horsepower pretty easily. A NA 3.8 makes for a well balanced Cayman, what it should have been from the factory!

@@BoostBrothersGarage yup I agree. This is how they should have come from the factory. But they didn't want this to take away from 911 sales or start besting 911s. Never took my car to the dyno but the builder said it is roughly 80-90 hp over stock. So I figure with drive train loss it's about 333 hp to the wheels. I actually just put a video up of the exhaust sound in car on my channel to show people what a 3.8 sounds like in a 987 cayman.

I re-subscribed don’t let me down again :-) if the engine in my 981 cayman ever goes then it will be getting a turbo motor so this is super interesting to me as a diy guy! The dream would be a gt2 style motor bored out to 4.0 with twin turbos in a cayman just to see how fast one can really go!

Wow those wheels. Not sure if you have ever said but what are the specs on the wheels and/or spacers. And did you powdercoat them?

They are Victor Equipment Le Mans wheels in 19”. I don’t remember widths but they only have a couple options and these are the wider option.
