Hey Pals!
This is a longggg video that's more of a "video log" than it is a "vlog". I cut together the all of the streamed footage from Ludum Dare 46 into a single video for your viewing pleasure. As I mentioned in the previous video, this is basically the precursor to Project Apollo, which I'm working on right now, so I thought it would be a good idea to start the series here.
Enjoy!
You can play "Remember, Apollo" on Itch right now at uppon-hill.itch.io/remember-a...

This video features clips from my stream. Catch it live: Mon, Tues, Thurs and Fri 1-6pm AEST.

Watching the segment about the screen slowly lighting up after you get to each check point and then the audio section got me thinking about a GMTK video where Mark suggested each enemy represents an instrument. I think you could do something similar, where the music becomes more vibrant the more of the memory you unlock. Just a thought. It's always great to see your work, keep it up

Very interesting game idea! I also love your background art! For the curve you were looking for, there were a few possibilities. You could have used sin(x) where x goes from 0 to pi/2. Or a semi-circle sqrt(1-x^2) where x goes from -1 to 0. Or a parabola 1-x^2 where x goes from -1 to 0. I think using the Unity curve tool is more computationally efficient though since it's a bezier curve. I'm not exactly sure how Unity does the coefficients, but I would hope that it pre-calculates them, so that evaluation at runtime is just multiplication and addition (square roots and trig functions are expensive).

super cool game! just discovered your channel, super chill videos to watch, wish I could watch the entire streams but twitch does not go back that far :/ I'm curious about something if you can answer me, when creating the Text for each node you use SimpleAnimation and Helpers, it's something you made previously right?. They look like usefull tools, I was wondering if it was something like a repo I could check out, would make prototyping different little games way easier. Edit: Just saw that I could download the source code. Can I use the Helpers and SimpleAnimation scripts myself?
@AdamCYounis
@AdamCYounis 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah! Those are both classes I wrote to help do tasks I find myself repeating all the time. SimpleAnimation is very similar to Unity's own AnimationCurve, it just handles the incrementing of values and "playback", so I don't have to keep track of a time parameter to pass into AnimationCurve.Evaluate(); Feel free to hop onto discord if you've got any more questions :)

@AdamCYounis
@AdamCYounis 3 жыл бұрын
Oh, really? How did you figure that out?
@RyanMcKayOfficial
@RyanMcKayOfficial 3 жыл бұрын
@@AdamCYounis I've used FL Studio for years with no problems and then I recently got Famisynth when I started wanting to write chiptune music. Any project that I used Famisynth in caused FL Studio to crash upon trying to close my project, but it doesn't do this in other cases. I have another music producer friend, who when using Famisynth inside FL also had problems. I avoid use the synth except for getting some ideas because of this issue. As an alternative I highly recommend looking up "Adventure Kid NES Sytrus presets". These presets for sytrus are great and have served me well. (you can also get the raw waveforms on this guys site) The best part about using with Sytrus is that you can take advantage of its band limiting feature to get a really clean sound. However these presets will be the base, standard nes sounds. You'll need to do more sound design in sytrus or add other effects to get more of the special sounds that Famisynth offers. Oh and if you have problems with crashing I recommend setting FL Studio's backup frequency to a higher amount, FLs backup system is really helpful.
