Awesome! So glad I was able to find this historic monster truck a good home. I cannot wait to hear it rip again. I had done some research awhile ago and it seemed like swapping in LRP engines was pretty common for the MGT. But now that I know it’s a heli engine I think it’d be cooler to run it as is.

I had a Thunder Tiger EK4 back in the day, wish I never sold it, the thing was a wheelie monster (frame was weak had to upgrade it to the stronger one), the biggest issue they had for the gen1 EK4 was the clutch shoes and cooling. There was an aftermarket company that made a gigantic cooling head for that engine which cooled it down a lot, never was able to solve the clutch shoe issue, even had custom aluminum shoes made but they couldn't handle the power. I used a cordless drill to start mine and had several of those 1/4 drivers on hand.
@hybrid324944 жыл бұрын
hey dude, thanks for watching and your EK4 recollection, very interesting. I remember those hige billet cooling heads, they made the truck look like a real beast back then. Hopefully I can find one soon, bring back some memories to everyone. This MGT model is basically the same, but it's a smaller .50 motor than the EK4, also has cooling issues from what I read.

hey buddy! thanks you for watching. That's a good question. This is a common issue with any older RC, but in all my years of restoring vintage nitros I have never failed to make one run and have never bought any significant parts. The main thing to look for is for them to be complete, you don't want to be chasing down plastic parts or gears. Engines are easily replaceable, but it's not cheap. I only seek out complete models, as much as I can tell from the pictures of course.

hey man! Well if you're looking for an entirely new motor on the MGT/S28 then you should have a ton of replacement options available. The .28 is the most common engine size these days and come with pull starters. If you're talking about the .50 size motor, well then you're gonna need to go with a .32 LRP. Ofcourse if you want to keep it original you will need to find a whole new part.
