Project Boat - Converting a stern drive to podded outboard Pt2

Part two of the the whole story of when we decided to take on an old project boat and fit on the back a massive 350 horsepower engine!
This is the story of 'Beast', a clapped out 23 foot Bertram which had a rather unreliable inboard, so we decided to embark on a full restoration and bolt a Yammi V8 350 on the back, which at the time was the biggest outboard engine in the world. These videos are a good in-depth look into what it takes to tackle a project boat and passes on some of the things we learnt along the way. We hope you enjoy.

I had a searay. Just like it. It was the most squirrelly boat at high speeds . Add some waves or boat traffic. You would have to pull out. Good boat to cruise down the river in the fog on a cold early morning. In the USA you can get those boats for two or three grand. Running. A old trojan from the 60s any size would be my choice. With teak decks

Watching this when he says the “350 is the biggest outboard in ALL the world”, after just watching a heap of videos on the Merc 600hp outboard. These videos are great these days with the high definition images on the big TV.

Now that outboards are so powerful, it seems like switching a tired I/O sterndrive to an outboard is a good option.

Like how you took to sound reading with the engine box up😂 I remember you didn't test the Yamaha with the cowling off. Loved this project that much I bought a 23 👍

Pay attention. They did say that the sound readings were taken with the engine box on, not off.

It’s great to run the numbers before you took out the old motor and it will show a difference I’m shore. I’d love to know the overall weight Difference in the boat with the new motor as well though.

why are these hull-extensions SO extremely long? Why can't I mount the outboard directly to the transome?

Fishermen are hilarious all that speed and fuel to get to somewhere else to catch a $10 fish or two :)

Stripping the boat would affect all of the numbers you came up with.

Outboard's are fast but no place in back for dingy so in a emergency you have to put on life vest and sharks will have your ass

If you just want to go faster go with a bow rider fishing boat its like a bathtub with horse power

kinda defeats the purpose if you extend the hull instead of mounting the outboard on the transom where it belongs. Don't it ?

gps will give you speed over water. if you're on the ground that boat isn't moving at all unless it's on a trailer. wow just wow. comments for a vehicle instead of a watercraft.

The 350 is not the biggest Yamaha also makes a 425 and mercury has a 450 and the new 600
