Stop pollution from meat eating that is causing more environmental damage than all fossil fuel industry combined, chemicals have destroyed 80% of insect life, that the sparrows and other creatures feed on, stop using chemicals like glyphosate, and other herbicides and pesticides and spread the word meat eating is destroying everything...that would be a good start. I agree with Astha Singh. ive done the same on my kitchen window. not just sparrows, but you will be surprised how many different kinds of birds will enjoy some water and seeds or grains. most birds love bajri, jowar, rice kind of grains. Except for crows who are far more demanding in a nice way.

In TamilNadu we can see all the small small shop owners or homes they put some small boxes outside and make it a nest for these birds... It's working very well...Most of the boxes they use are Shoe boxes or some carton boxes only.. If you feel the box is sufficient for this bird, please make a small hole, fill 20% of it with some dry grass and just hang it outside your balcony... Within few weeks it'll adopt the nest...

A DIY would be to use empty Green coconut shells. once we drink the coconut water, we usually throw it away. you can ask the coconut vendor to widen the mouth of the coconut shell. get it home drill a few holes in it in such a way that it can be hanged Horizontally. dry it in the sun for a day and then keep some dried grass in it for it to look like a nest. keep some grains and water close by. This will encourage the birds to come and use the HOME. This is ideal for people who have smaller open spaces like balconies or window sills. Even if each home can manage to keep just one nest, we can house 100's of birds.

Government should take initiative towards this... Because we humans are getting heartless day-by-day

Keep water holes for bird. Bird sitting area, plates for seeds and water and a fruit tree attract birds. Trees provide them shelter and nesting facility. They eat insects, worms and give you back phosphorus rich waste. They help in seed disperse and flowering of vegetables.
