A year and a half ago, my Dad's huntin buddy decided he was tired of pushin a clutch pedal, he's 80yrs old, so he gave us a call and said "$3000" was what he wanted for his '85 Cj-7 Renegade...a really long story short, I paid that $3000, and so far I've got just over $14,700 in it on top of the purchase cost...HOWEVER, just about a week ago, I noticed I've got a quite a bit of oil comin out of the filler cap, so I did a compression test, and I found 2 cylinders at 122psi, the other 4 all at about 138psi....now the motors gotta come out...had a 3in Skyjacker softride suspension lift installed because that's as high as you can go without needin new drivelines, installed a Howell throttle body, head gasket went next so I had the head shaved, the block decked, and all new valves and guides installed in the rebuilt head, had the entire brake system replaced, fuel tank and fuel lines replaced, new clutch, radiator, a few months ago I had a Track-Loc posi rearend installed...3rd gear synchro in the trans is toast, needs a full cage roll bar welded into it, the steering column is a Garbage Motors manufactured piece of chevy junk, I can't remove the ignition key from it, I'm on my second Garbage Motors produced gauge cluster, the gas gauge quit workin literally 3 days after it was installed, got the old school Warn winch, the ratcheting model everyone keeps tellin me is the one to have, the R2000 or, hell I can't remember, but it leaked every bit of oil it had in it overnight while parked in my folks brand new cement driveway when I was there for Christmas, so when I can afford it that's gettin shipped back to warn to be rebuilt....don't misconstrue what I'm sayin, I love Jeeps, grew up ridin in my Dad's bulletproof 1970 Kaiser Cj-5 Renegade, watched him beat up on junk small block chevy's racin at Pismo Beach, this Cj-7 is my third Jeep, had a nice 58 Cj-5 I never should've sold, and I've got a 49 Cj-2a with a Ford 289 K-Code putting over 300 to the ground....it's just this AMC, it's killing my bank account...I like it, but damn...its almost as if the last really good Jeep produced was the last one Kaiser manufactured before selling the name to AMC...imo all these Jeeps newer than, maybe like 1989-90 model year, are all hot garbage though...good luck with your build bro 🤘🏻🇺🇸🇺🇸

quick question is your rear brake line to chassis different than other years because mine needs to be a foot longer than the one specked by all the parts houses?

Seems pretty similar to the '84 CJ-7 I bought to start a restoration project on. Mine ran (after a fashion) but was in about the same shape overall.

Looking for a CJ7, stock, parts are not that expensive and available, garage it in the winter and no top or doors in the summer. Love the old manual transmissions!

Try www.willysworks.com/ they ship parts. Also try www.bjsoffroad.com/ they have hard rare parts. But kind of pricey tho.

"Ran when parked." Cars always get parked for a reason-nine times out of ten it's because there's some other serious problem-even if they're being truthful that it ran.
