I am still blown away at the amount of resistance this cartridge has, however an amazing, crisp clear sounding turntable still to this day!

Relly good video first of all! :) I'm also planning on buying my first turntable and thought about the Pro-Ject Debut III. Do you think that there are better options in that class range? And what else do I need to buy to make the music play? Can you maybe name me some decent but cheap preamps? Thanks a lot!

Thanks man, do not get caught up in all the hype out there, vinyl has become the largest form of audio that has made a comeback in history. The sales have out numbered compact discs as well as digital downloads in the last few years and there are soooo many reasons but mainly you can hear just about everything and control most of the audio yourself. If you are getting your first record player... don't make the mistakes I have made by getting a super cheap garbage turntable that just seems easy to use. I would honestly recommend the project ones because they are audiophile grade quality without changing a bunch of stuff, the reason I use so many preamps and an expensive setup with 3 total pre amps is for 2 big reasons. One - the phono preamps clean up the audio a ton and help to eliminate the radio station playing ever so noticeably in your speakers... that can be caused by your wires acting like an AM or FM antenna. 2 - Using a phono preamp allows anyone to take a turntable and convert the connection into a line level input as opposed to a phono input. You know the stereos that have an input called phono? That is there because they have a phono preamp inside of them making them more expensive. Using the phono preamp allows you to plug it into any stereo not using that PHONO input, you could use any input you wanted as long as it is analog with the 2 red and white left and right stereo hook ups. Keep in mind also look around for used records since my first purchases years ago at a half price books for a few dollars, still spin daily on my technics the best turntable I own. Nothing like getting up before work with a giant cup of coffee, an old $2 record and some brand new equipment blasting at 90 plus decibels. First of all check out amazon for the pricing, and compare that to other retailers, I would say the Project is a great one to start with, although I still wish I could have gotten a digital one to play to my newer stereos at much higher volumes. I would honestly go with a $50 to $200 price range on the preamp depending on your budget. Emotiva as well as Project both offer probably one of the best preamps out there at lower costs. I always recommend the Parasound zphono pre amp to people who can spend a bit more since there are a ton of options. I would really say if price is a concern, which it always is go with www.amazon.com/Pyle-PP999-Phono-Turntable-Pre-Amp/dp/B00025742A/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1494610373&sr=8-3&keywords=phono+preamp If you want one that is high end and you can change the ohm ratings and gain manually go with the Emotiva that I show in my videos www.amazon.com/Emotiva-Audio-XPS-1-Phono-Preamp/dp/B00PMCIYK4/ref=sr_1_17?ie=UTF8&qid=1494610373&sr=8-17&keywords=phono+preamp For turntables... If you want to buy what just about everyone else has choose the audiotechnica at lp 60 or 120... and if you want something that is really good quality go with the Project debut III or carbon. Hope this helps, good luck and let me know what ya end up with!

Meris Prosic I have the project debut carbon and it sounds amazing. I would recommend going for that over the debut 3 just because it comes with the ortofon 2m red pre-installed and has a better way of dealing with vibrations such as a more stable motor housing, DC power source, and carbon fiber tonearm. however it is more expensive. either way you go, you'll love the turntable. goodluck

Puppies World thank you very, very much for that awesome answer! Means a lot to me! Just one other question : I have an offer for a used dual cs 704 for 150€. Is it worth it?

Do I need a preampl/ampl or can I just connect it with 2 speakers?

does the project debut need a pre amp? also my amp doesn't have a phono input so I was wondering if it was just as simple as buying a phono to aux cable adapter.

Ronan M with the project turntables most will require a preamp if you don't have a phono input on your amp. an adapter would work fine... keep in mid, the quality of the preamp makes little difference based on the turntable. most of the quality will be in the actual turntable and the main amp. I would suggest getting a cheaper preamp with multiple inputs. or if money is tight, get a adapter for a single hookup from one turntable, to adapter then amp. I use the multiple pre amps to bring up the quality and volume as I have never heard such quality out of a $300 to $400 turntable such as the project.

Puppies World so I wouldn't actually need a pre amp? it would work with a simple adapter?
@tacticalAV

Sorry I did not see your reply, but either get a cheap phono pre amp, or just use a stereo with a PHONO input on it, that will have the phono pre amp inside of the stereo.

I make a mistake on quoting the ohms rating recommended by project... the proper conversion for k ohms would be 47k ohms = 4700 ohms. Or take the kilo ohm rating and multiply 1000 normally. Not to be mistaken for the capitol K which means Kelvin in terms of temperature.

@dixielandfarm 7 жыл бұрын
Not to nitpick (because I hate that)... but you are still off a zero. It is 47,000 ohms... otherwise the value would have been 4.7k ohms... had to do a lot of this electronic math for my ham radio license :) I knew what you meant, regardless...

dixielandfarm thank you for finally clarifying that I was so confused as to why project would list 47k ohms without a space between the K in the ohms. I've been working on some interesting project with cables and the skin effect of them however it seems to be relevant to me that these cables all deteriorate at certain levels below or above what the human ear can actually hear so the difference is inexpensive cables to me aren't audible to the human ear tell me if that Rings true to you
@dixielandfarm
@dixielandfarm 7 жыл бұрын
Skin effect is only a factor on like, a quarter of a mile of cable for audio frequencies (like a stadium)... however on radio waves, its a big deal (and lightning diversion, actually as well)... You will have stumbled upon the biggest myth in audiophiledom - honestly a good constructed 75 ohm shielded cable (like video cable) is about all you need for interconnects... you will notice very expensive cable having large outer jackets and dielectrics, etc... which all change its RLC properties (resistance, inductance, and capacitance) - all things when you want to build a filter... it isn't that those cables don't make a difference in sound, it is that they really aren't supposed to :) BUT, that is my opinion and everyone is entitled to do whatever they feel :) Cables are easy to measure - it is funny how often you don't seem them measured, though... Again, my opinion as a skeptic...:) Keep up the good work and the journey!
