I really love how *weird* the Phases are. Their super-esoteric designs, the eye motif, the bells, the terrifying intro cutscene, how you can only beat them by glitching the game, how their HP isn't even measured in numbers, they're so cool

Skeith is one of the very few bosses in video game history who fully lives up to the hype and fear he incited in the player when he first appeared to completely and utterly wreck Orca. For the rest of the game, among all the usual stuff you do, you constantly worry about when he will appear again, perhaps even becoming anxious as INFECTION comes to a close. You're not even level 50 in a normal scenario. What chance do you even have? And in the moment he finally appears again, you dread what he's gonna do to you. How can you win if even Orca couldn't land a hit? And then you get promptly oneshot because-like I said- he lives up to the hype, and you prepare yourself not for a battle, but for a struggle to survive the onslaught of the creature that claimed your very first companion. The Terror of Death indeed.

Replaying the .hack games, and I realized what absolute genius this and the intro to Skeith is. The entire game up to that point feels like standard MMO encounters, with the occasional data bug still being not that big of a deal. And then this comes along, and it's got a completely different feel, and you KNOW shit just got real. And the first time Skeith's regular old basic attack almost one-shots Blackrose, who has probably the highest HP out of all your party members at that point... scary.

I remember my first fighting him , he one shot my entire team. I believe I was a bit under leveled going into the fight but was still an Absolute monster.

I still come back to this theme every now and then. I still love the .hack games, both IMOQ and GU. The Phases/Avatars/Epitaths are one of the things that has inspired me many times. Its also nice to see some of my comments from 12-13 years ago on here hah. Thanks for keeping this uploaded.

Only started playing Infection a few days ago. Beat Skeith yesterday. Read comments about how Skeith was the hardest Phase before I headed into the dungeon so I freaked and level grinded till level 35. But I didn't think I'd still use up so many health drinks Q_Q

Sometimes, Skeith will use an attack called "Judgement", which freezes everybody in the party and deal a massive amount of water damage. Now, whenever he uses that while the music is around 0:39, it just gets way creepier. Like, "This is your final judgement". Seriously.

This music makes this one of the best VG bosses of all time. He was genuinely terrifying, bloody difficult in an already tricky game and you were so determined to end him because of the story.

What's even crazier is I was like 8-9 years old while playing this, but I had eventually practiced this and the other phase battles so thoroughly I could beat all of them without even having Kite hit critical HP once.

Yes, when Sheik was killed and the players woke up Sora lost his memory and his parents hid the truth from him and threw away the game. By utter coincidence Sora started playing R:2 several years later when he fused again with Avatar Skeith. Coincidentally Haseo is an alternate reading for the kanji that spells Matsou Bansho a famous Japanese poet and Sora comes from his disciple Kawai Sora which Haseo claims is where he got the names.

Oh yes for sure. The bells in particular have shown themselves in every Phase fight. When the Japanese //GU trailer dropped in 2005, I literally crapped myself hearing the bells again and seeing the 8 phases matched up with players.

Full disclosure, I never played the .hack IMOQ games. So, I never experienced the "Terror of Death" associated with Skeith and his theme song. So, I actually kind of find his theme song to be a bit relaxing? If I'm stuck in traffic, for example, or just having a bad day in general this song is one I'll play to help me unwind. I also get a sort of "haunted rave" vibe from it. Like, play this song at a Halloween party and it'll fit right in. XD I don't get that from the other Phase themes. The G.U. remix of this theme is super edge-lord angry, but also has that "haunted rave," feel and I love it.

This and IG-88 from Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire I think are among the scariest for me. Skeith only scared me though as throughout the game you knew he was invincible and during the fight I wasn't sure if I was doing anything right. lol

@unknownelite92 if I remember correctly it was alot more than that. He data drained alot more people when he was desguised as Sora so Skeith wouldn't bring to much attention. He also data drained a couple in liminality and both fell comatose though only one recovered which turned out to be the very girl that saved the comatose victims and Kite and his group from being killed when CC Corp wanted to delete everything.

While it is the first wave fight the fact of the matter was this one had to be the hardest fight in the series for the following reasons. 1) You are at the lowest level compared to the other boss fights 2) Your gear as well as your parties gear even if the strongest in said game is still trash compared to the other versions.

if someone needs too know something listen sora is haseo's (you know from G.U.) original charactor and he was a PK. skeith data drained him and took his form and started chasing aura. in Liminality, when Mai and Tokuoka go to Theta: Chosen Hopeless Nothingness, "Sora" attacks them but Mai throws down her Nereo Goggles before "Sora" can complete his attack. she then breaks the computer and drags Tokuoka outside, and when Kite and BlackRose beat Skeith, sora is released from the wand.

I meant that when the players woke up. In other words when Morganna was killed. But Sora double crossed Morganna and pretty much wound up swallowed up to power Skeith so he could kill Tsukasa Aura and all of Net Slum in one go. But when Helba deleted the server Aura escaped and Skeith disguised himself as Sora to find her.

Skeith actually is the strongest of all the Phases, but he's definitely not difficult as long as you know what you're doing. I think the reason for him being so hard is because the game's level cap is 99 and you have to be at least level 33, one-third of the level cap, in order to stand a chance against him.

i agree mostly, when i first fought skeith i was so underprepared and didnt know what to expect, i got raped. But after i got the hang of it he was easy. Corbenik was a little harder, you didn't just need essentials, you needed them maxed out for him, or at least thats what i felt
