Project L and Riot Games has the power to change the FGC. For the worst or for the better, let's explore the current state the fighting games to see the paths laid before us thanks to games like Street Fighter 6 (SF6) and Mortal Kombat 1 (MK1), and see just how Roit is going to change things and what the FGC can do about it. Given that 2XKO is the League of Legends fighting game, not that much.
Go read Them's Fighting Words!

"Why would people go to local/regional?" People still like the aspect of community and meeting other players in person. Also able to learn and from people there, which can do online but in person encourages this communication cuz there right there.

The other issue I have is Riot will propaganda people into believing the fgc needs anticheats like vanguards so now every fighting game will track everything you alt tab to between games and make your PC run awfully

pretty sure anti-cheats have been common in fighting games for a long time. no one complains when dbfz has it, seems silly to me to complain about riot having it, esp when we have no idea if they would have something anywhere near the level of vanguard

"I had twitter clips here, but it's not worth it" Brother you are preaching the good word. FGC Twitter used to be kinda OK, but now it's garbage where people ragebait about an M. Bison move animation or how some anime game is problematic because fan service. And most of these people don't play the game.

Right? It´s ridiculous how a large part of the FGC until just about 1-2 years ago never spoke of anything other than offline events. "Oh you want to get better? Visit your locals! Visit your local Arcade!" All while there are plenty people that simply don´t have any events near them and can´t afford or have the time to regularly go on trips for events like that.

Designing an event for fans might be more successful than designing it for competitors. The events might be dead now, but Magic: the Gathering grand prixs were fun because they often had things like side events for different game modes, cosplay, card vendors, free-play areas, artist signings, etc. It was enough to push me to visit one local to me, even though I would never go for the main event. I don't think the model should be adapted absolutely, but there are ideas to consider. Things change drastically when you change the magnitude of the # entrants, plus the whole trial/error thing you mention... just, yeah, I don't have a good solution for everything. Just sharing my own experience! Thanks for reading. I very much enjoyed the video.

Interesting video, but it should be said that Riot does not typically have online tournaments for their major titles. I wouldn't jump to conclusions until the game actually comes out and Riot shows their hand.

I can´t really agree with a lot that was said. I get the point but it seems incredibly misguided. I guess a good example would be "It would make for a less tight knit and lamer FGC". Probably somewhat true. But that is just a result of the FGC being kinda exclusive with the need to go to offline events. And the offline event scene is mainly just in the US and Japan because these countrys had and still have an Arcade culture. Most places around the world barely have or had any arcades. So the local scene just doesn´t exist. When I got into Fighting Games it baffled me that games like Tekken 7 still got an Arcade release way before any home console or pc release because I think I have ever seen just a single arcade in the country where I live and that was in our capital city. It is no surprise Fighting Games became way more popular now than they have ever been and that is not just because of the upped production value of games but also the ease of access in terms of engaging with the game. Be it easily finding matches online or watching tournaments without needing to go on a whole weekend trip with associated costs.

I think u really underestimate the value of in person events, even lower level ones. Yea there’s online BS but those people will only get so far. People giving tips and seeing different players, 5 hours of a local is worth 30 hours of online in my experience. I’m pretty confident the best of the best are going to locals a lot and not just staying online. I think Online has massive advantages like u said, but u undersell the value of in person events

It's weird. I'm hearing words, and I know what they mean, but all I understand is "Online sucks. It's more convenient, cheaper and more competitive for spectators, players, and companies but it still sucks." You're out here complaining about gas prices when the best Tekken players in the world are being denied a chance to compete in the biggest tournaments because they come from a country that isn't white enough. Maybe offline should die if that's the case because this is like trying to saying we have to save movie theaters. It's adapt or die. I think locals should just turn into online tournaments. You want people to drive all the way to your dirty ass venue, to play on a setup that's less comfortable and less advanced than the one they have at home? You can't even get the offline part to be good or at least better than the own room experience. What do you lose really? The bigger tournaments are still there so if you want to go you can spend the equivalent of a good vacation to attend one.

I think Project L will start the FGC Its not uncommon for almost every single friend you have plays league/valorant or was a player. While playing a fighting game if one or 2 play smash casually you are lucky. If they played something they ended up dropping it in less than a week. 2XKO may finally make it mainstream with the Team gameplay that helps to maintain players and convince friends to play with you, simple inputs Its Free so no need to use tons of money in a game they will probably drop.

I mostly agree, Riot has the starpower that they could catapult it into the mainstream. Valorant managed to be successful despite CSGO's monopoly on the market at the time. I'm sure some FGC people will loathe the game because it made the FGC "normie infested", and there will be some truth to it, some pros and cons.

Nah, this game could die as well as the new HunterXHunter Game. When they said no Motion Inputs, I was out. At the very least they should have given you the option to pick Baby Inputs or Arcade Motion Inputs. I play 2D Fighting Games mainly just to do the damn Motion Inputs. They are the most enjoyable aspect to me in Fighting Games and everything else 2nd. I enjoy executing the moves more than I do winning. So both games could die and hopefully it does. Tired of these games having to hold your hand. But I'm sure the Participation Trophy Crowd will say different.

I also watched your other video regarding this. The main problem with the FGC why its not popular is you said it yourself, its not esports enough. We have to accept and admit its esports the reason why fighting games genre have revival in late 00s. Its commercialized so theres incentive for people to play fighting games seriously. I dont see the problem with this system. When modern Olympics introduced in 1896 do Olympics die hard also complaining its not grassroots anymore?
