Hello Phil, (great tutorials) regarding the Planning Process Group, some of the publications list Estimate Activity Resource after Sequencing Activities and not after Plan Resource Management. In the PMBOK 6th Edition it does not list as such, it mirrors what you've presented in this tutorial video. For the PMP Exam, should we consider moving the Estimate Activity Resources up in the Planning Process when answering situational questions?

The Project Charter a 1 or 2 page document? Most of the ones I create avg 11 pages
@Praizion6 жыл бұрын
Good deal! It really depends on the firm/PMO and the project but its scalable from one page to several. My advice is keep it as succinct as possible so you don't lose your intended audience. Some firms and teams are used to very detailed charters while others run from anything over 2 pages 😀
@iknowyouarebutwhatami6 жыл бұрын
@@Praizion I couldnt agree more. HIGH LEVEL right. I have created some very simple ones as well. Company has no PMO so I make my own docs. Now I'm a PMI member I have a lot if resources. Do you have an email or a way to contact u?

I understand that you can determine your budget as a total of all your cost estimations. However, during project selection process, you compare the benefits versus the costs and based on that you need to determine the project cost/budget. Am i missing something?
@Praizion5 жыл бұрын
Indeed! Good question. Early in the project a high-level analogous estimate is available. This is what the profits are based upon: an initial high-level or in some cases even a detailed cost estimate. Some projects are actually planned as some sort of market research before initiating so when detailed planning begins based on additional clarity of parameters, a lot of the information is already available. Remember process groups are just that...groups of processes that are not necessarily sequential.

@michaeld60614 жыл бұрын
Hi I liked the clear and simple approach. However I do have one issue with the flow (and this applies to PMBOK also). You cannot develop a final schedule nor budget without knowing what resources you have at your disposal. You cannot schedule parallel work without having sufficient resources and you cannot estimate costs without knowing if you need to outsource work or bring in contractors (the costs will differ compared to using existing resources). So for me estimating resources must be done in parallel with estimating schedule and costs (this can be iterative). I would also say that you cannot finalise the schedule and budget until you have done the risk management. Planning quality, communication etc. can come next (although these can affect schedule and cost also but in my opinion not as much). So in reality the planning process is iterative and doesn’t flow in a linear way as PMBOK implies. However that doesn’t mean that what you have put together is invalid as it isn’t. Nice work.
@Praizion4 жыл бұрын
Absolutely Michael. I say it regularly: The PMBOK Processes are iterative. A lot of overlap exists. Pre-assignment (executing) must happen before initiating in some cases. Process groups are just buckets and labels. Processes are NOT by any means linear. This is covered in the PMBOK Guide too but you have to hunt to find it. PMI is just taking a line of best fit to present the information but they know this is NOT the case. Project Management is Iterative. I have a video about this: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hYrNZXqhYt55Z8k
