Makes a great noise, get it fitted!

But now it’s taking air from the warm bit (near the exhaust). That shield to the right of the filter is the divide between the warm and cold part of the engine bay.
@MashleyMedia5 жыл бұрын
I don't think you are really going to notice on a mazda MX5 tbf. You'd be kidding yourself if you think it would make any noticeable difference to power either way. Its just about the noise.

I can imagine :D You done any other mods to your mx5 like exhaust systems and such?
@MashleyMedia8 жыл бұрын
Sinner90s aye, quite a few, Koni dampers, H&R springs, cobra classic bucket seats, MOMO Prototipo steering wheel, 5race roll bar, new dark grey hard top, and I have a set of brand new Japan racing wheels sitting in the spare bedroom... Fun and cheap little cars to work on, I even filmed it all, just not had time to edit it as all my other video content has to come first...

Mashley Media I was wondering how the ride quality is with the Koni dampners & H&R springs installed ? I have a set of Koni "yellow" dampners , Fat Cat bump stops & a few set's of springs ready to install Thanks in advance mate .

No probs, anyone who cant follow this video needs to give up on cars and take up golf. lol The Typhoon sounds mint, don't care about power gains or losses, the sound is amazing.

could you upload a video about Miata's and stuff to look for when buying a used one? like spots that may be rusty on each gen of the car or certain trouble parts to keep an eye on?

Good video but imo any air intake that pulls hot air from the radiator and is that close to the exhaust manifold rather than cold fed air will produce less bhp than the stock air box.
@Tiimy628 жыл бұрын
I was wondering if I will be able to fit it and it seems so simple thanks you !
@julianharrold40534 жыл бұрын
Thinking of getting one of these. The stock air intake is behind the headlight. This seems to be closer to the “hot”exhaust. Would it be better to run an extension pipe and fit the filter behind the light where the air is cooler?

Do you intend to deal with the rust and corrosion on the frame at some point?
@MashleyMedia5 жыл бұрын
ha, god no, its was just a bit of fun to learn about the mechanics of the car. I sold it and bought a Lotus Elise, then a John Cooper Works Mini, and now a 2019 Mercedes-AMG C43 Premium Plus. I wouldn't waste my time/money on that sort of thing, it's not worth it, just better to buy a better car.
@pepega10617 жыл бұрын
Is it supposed to wobble a bit like that?
@MashleyMedia7 жыл бұрын
yeah, if you look at the video you can see its the actual engine thats moving on the mounts and in turn the intake system is simple moving with it. I would also say that the filter end of the intake system is quite heavy and made of rubber, not plastic, so it has a lot of flexibility.
@tibor.greskovic8 жыл бұрын
Is it necessary to protect the air filter from heat from engine? Also, if I may: how much performance does this change add? Btw. cool video, thanks for posting it, it really helps with my MX5 :)

I know that video is an year old, but I do see the Koni STR T shocks (with H&R springs I guess) next to the intake. Got the same car, but running VMaxx suspension right now. The Koni STR T KIT is about 400 €, and Koni ain't a bad brand in general. My question to you is how does it work out?
@MashleyMedia7 жыл бұрын
to be honest I've driven the car about 200 miles since this video. I had a 323bhp Audi S3 which I focused on and just last week I bought a lotus elise. MX5 are great cars, Ive had 3, however sadly Im not in a position to honestly answer your question.

Hey I know this video is old but I just bought an nb Miata and wanted to know what the 2nd thing you took off went to as mine is missing right now and theres no threads anywhere about any of the plugs or hoses that come out the stock air box. Hopefully someone has some insight. It was on the right side of the air box.

The PilotMaster it's sold as a product for mk2/2.5 cars. I would contact MX5 parts and clarify with them directly www.mx5parts.co.uk/typhoon-intake-system-mazda-mk2-25-p-473.html

do you feel a power gain?
@MashleyMedia8 жыл бұрын
Not a noticeable one, you're only talking about an additional 3bhp but I assume once we tie it in with a few other mods then it will start to make a difference. It has definitely improved drivability of the car though, its a lot smoother at low revs, and the noise when you accelerate is lovely! I will be getting some acceleration videos soon, I tried with a go pro but the sound quality was poor so I left it out.
@TheOnlyToblin8 жыл бұрын
You will never feel a power gain with an air intake without forced induction, and this particular air intake will do nothing for you as it's placed right next to the hot exhaust manifold sucking in hot air. You'll likely lose power, however it'll sound awesome. So it's a tradeoff.
@MashleyMedia8 жыл бұрын
Interesting. K&N guarantee a 3bhp increase, but its an MX5 so its not about power. I have a 323bhp Audi S3 Sportback for power, this build is just a bit of fun for the summer.
@TheOnlyToblin8 жыл бұрын
To get that kind of increase, you'd have to build a separator to shield the filter from the hot air of the exhaust. There are plenty of those builds if one simply googles MX-5 engines. Though, in those builds, the filter is usually placed further outwards, almost right behind the headlight and it's actual intake is below the headlight. Still, it's a minor increase/decrease regardless. The point of these intakes is style and sound. At least in my opinion. No one is going to notice a 3 BHP change. Ever.
@MashleyMedia8 жыл бұрын
I think heat soak would make a difference if it was a big power engine but given its just an mx5 with circa 140bhp I don't think we have anything to worry about either way. My S3 is modified by revo with a dyno proven 323.4bhp and thats set up the same way. A 140bhp mazda 1.8 engine is not going to be bothered by heat soak in the slightest.
@jackhb75528 жыл бұрын
Wouldn't expect much of a power gain but does it sound nice and doesn't lose any power? Seen one going super cheap... so tempted but I think I'll resist :P

Its the air temperature sensor so quite important. If you have lost it I've just looked on mx5parts and they sell them for £25. You could maybe get it cheaper on eBay.
