Not sure if I missed it but why not start from the bottom up?
@GoldenKeyDesign2 жыл бұрын
Due to the nature of the chevron pattern, we found it easiest to start with the long piece of the upper triangle and make sure that was perfect. Then, as we added pieces we knew they were already positioned correctly. Hope that makes sense!

Work bottom up to solve the no room to install issue

We worked top down to ensure the chevron pattern was perfectly plumb. We found it easier that way

Hi awesome job!! What kind of trim did you use around the tv opening?
@GoldenKeyDesign2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I used corner trim. It looks like an L but is the same length in both directions. It is the same trim I used on the outside corners of the shiplap. Hope that helps!

What is the vent for on the bottom?
@GoldenKeyDesign Жыл бұрын
We covered up a floor vent with the new fireplace, so we rerouted to the front of the fireplace.

Awesome build guys! Looks great! Do you know what size cabinets you used for the sides by any chance?
@GoldenKeyDesign2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! We used 36” cabinets on either side. They were in stock at our local big box store. But you can modify the size to fit your space! Hope that helps!

Awesome video. I'm planning to do like yours but not the cabinets. Behind the TV mount is just an open space, no Sheetrock to cover? Could you link the 2 side trim and tv trim too? Thanks
@GoldenKeyDesign2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Yes, it’s just open space since you can’t really see behind/around the tv. Link to trim: www.homedepot.com/p/Alexandria-Moulding-WM-205-1-1-8-in-x-1-1-8-in-x-96-in-Wood-Pine-Outside-Corner-Moulding-0W205-20096C/205917008

@@upload610 Exactly, I used that trim for both the edges of the shiplap and around the TV!

I love it!! Question though, how would you get the tv out if something goes wrong with it? I want to do this but I want to be able to get the tv out if need be.
@GoldenKeyDesign2 жыл бұрын
Thank you and good question! We used a tilting mount so you can tilt it up and reach around it and we made access panels in the side cabinets. But in hindsight a swivel mount would have been best. That way you can pull the TV out completely from the wall and access it that way! Hope that helps!
@lorrainejackson73112 жыл бұрын
@@GoldenKeyDesign Thank you for such a quick reply. What about tv over heating inside the wall, would that be a problem? I'm going to steal your project lol.
@GoldenKeyDesign2 жыл бұрын
@@lorrainejackson7311 Modern TVs are very energy efficient and have no problems with over heating. Also, the space is quite large behind the TV and has enough airflow

Why not use the jig saw for the fireplace cutout on the shiplap? Love this idea!! Looks awesome.
@GoldenKeyDesign3 жыл бұрын
Great question! Jigsaws tend to be a little rough and since we prepainted the shiplap, I didn’t want to damage the finish!
@stevenyoder81583 жыл бұрын
@@GoldenKeyDesign true!! Never thought of that. The guard can destroy a finish.

How do you measure for material
@GoldenKeyDesign2 жыл бұрын
Good question! I measured the height and width of the area I need to cover to determine the square footage. Then, depending on the size of the ship lap, I calculate how many boards I need. I usually add 10% extra for waste and I can always return leftover pieces.
@Mauriceandcarolyn3 жыл бұрын
Awesome video. Loved the whole series. Do you have a parts list for this project? I’d love to do this here in my home living room or the basement area.
@GoldenKeyDesign3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! Unfortunately, I don't have a parts list since the dimensions change depending on the room size. But the basic materials you will need are: 2x4s for stud walls, screws, wood glue, shiplap, paint, cabinets, wood mantle, select pine boards for shelving and countertops, stain, polyurethane, and trim pieces.

Lovely job, looking to do something similar, can I ask what cabinets and cabinet tops you used?
@GoldenKeyDesign3 жыл бұрын
@@mmyer1314 Thanks for watching! We bought the cabinets from Home Depot. They usually have the standard sizes in stock at the store. And I made the cabinet countertops from the same pine boards used for the floating shelves!

Any wood glue will work just fine, but I personally use Titebond 2 for most of my projects! Hope that helps!

What is that you used for the corners at 13:35?
@GoldenKeyDesign3 жыл бұрын
Great question! We used corner trim also called L trim to cover up the corners. It is a common type of trim sold by the foot at big box stores 🔨

What angles did you cut the ship lap at
@GoldenKeyDesign3 жыл бұрын
The angles were cut at 45 degrees on the miter saw. Happy Building!
This is this is the shiplap we used. Make sure to look through the pile at the store so you get the best pieces. Most come chipped and cracked. There are also longer and wider shiplap boards too!
