Hey there, Welcome to Project Royal Enfield. This is a fun little mini series i'm working on involving my 2022 Classic 350. The goal of this series is to see what can be done to improve the performance of this little single cylinder 350cc bike. Can we make it quicker?, More well rounded? more capable at high way speeds? Who knows.
In this video (part 3) I'll be installing the Fuelx Lite by PowerTRONIC. The Lite version Auto tunes the fuel mixture. The company claims a ton of benefits by adding this device such as; Cooling down the engine & exhaust temps, lesser downshifts, Increase torque & Horsepower, ect...
But does this product even do anything? Or is it a $130+ Placebo.
Link to the product if interested accessories.hitchcocksmotorcy...
I may have a few extra videos in the series where i change out non performance parts like swapping the seat, levers, mirrors, lighting, ect... We'll see where this series takes us.
I have also purchased a Dragy for the remainder of the series. It's a device that accurately measures things like 0-60 times, incline, lap times, and so much more.

Hey everyone, so with some people suggesting this. I've decided to make a Patreon Account. The whole idea is there so that i can afford the parts, software/hardware, products at a quicker pace that way i'll be able to produce and upload content on a more frequent schedule. As it sits it's not financially feasible for me to do it all on my own utilizing nothing but my own main source of Income. Unless i want to be heavily in Debt... which is a huge no for me lol. If your interested & want to help out, be my guest i would be super thrilled to have you. If not, hey i get it no worries. Thank you everyone! www.patreon.com/Foxxy400

Excellent review! Seems like the biggest bang for the buck regarding benefits is the Fuelex. So from what I've gathered, I'll be installing the Fuelex Lite first along with a free flow plate for the stock air filter and see how that goes. Little by little.

I’m in the UK and I have a DNA cover and decat pipe on my 2021 Meteor 350. The stock engine runs ridiculously lean as can be seen by the colour of the spark plug. The white colour indicates a very lean mixture which makes it run very hot. So hot in fact that there’s an oil way running around the exhaust valve seat to keep it cool. With the FuelX (I have the pro version) the mixture is richer and as the fuel vaporises it takes in heat leaving a cooler engine. I have also fitted the Hitchcocks cam and it certainly feels like the 20% power increase claimed with the other mods. I love the way the bike handles now. The effort was well worth it.

I can't speak about the US but in the UK the legal requirement for the accuracy of a speedometer is -0 to +10%. In other words it is illegal for it to read low but can read up to 10% high (true 30mph reads 33mph) and all speedos are calibrated to read high. I know this to be true because I am a software engineer and I used to work for Nippon Seiki a manufacturer of instrument packs for the likes of Ford, Honda, Jaguar/Land Rover and Triumph motorcycles, to name but a few.

I have got my FuelX Lite here in India directly from manufacturer. Wasn't having proper tools so i got to a local service shop and used their tools to fit it myself. Took me about an hour to install. I have the standard factory fitted exhaust and air filter. After installation took a small trip of about 20KMs but sasn't able to notice any change (except lower exhaust note). Maybe the engine will not heat that much when i take it for a longer trip. However, don't expect any significant and noticable change after installung FuelX. However, it was good to tinker a bit with tools and a diy experience helps connecting more with bike Your video helped a lot in process. Thanx.

If it wasn't the Chrome Bronze i would have opted for the sand Signals. NO dealer has those by me within a 500 mile radius. Lovely bikes, always get people coming up to me at stores and gas stations wondering how old the bike is. Going back i would definitely do the Fuelx lite first before anything else. Checked my spark plug recently and noticed a bit of wear on it already which i'm 100% positive it was because of the exhaust.

@@FoxParasyteOh cool. That's good to know. Thank you for your response! I've had similar interactions with people while riding around town. These bikes are fun! The reduced engine temperature, claim of decreased engine wear on your motorcycle, and possible improved throttle response contributed to my decision to order the FuelX Lite which I received the from Hitchcock's about a week ago. I hope to install it soon but wanted to put on my new adjustable hand levers for both the clutch and front brake lever which worked out better than expected in terms of performance as they are adjustable, lighter tension, and quicker to get on/more responsive. Hopefully I'll find time to install the FuelX Lite soon before my tax season starts. I'm sure I'll take a lot longer than you as I'm kind of new this stuff but just the same your video gave me the confidence to try. Thank you again!

Great video, as always. The speedometer issue is universal, my Vespa didn't even try to hide it... it read 8MPH while standing still. The free flow exhaust sounds nice but excessively loud. Baffle in? Baffle out? According to Hitchcock's, the critical performance upgrade comes not from the silencer but from the decat pipe.. you can retain the original silencer. As for the camshaft, I watched the Hitchcock's video on installing it, the camera angles were not sympathetic. They had the engine removed, sitting on a work bench. The Hitchcock's mechanic changed out the camshaft. It went smoothly, seemingly easily. This process took some very specific tools, tools that no backyard mechanic owns. They had four hands. There was no frame or wiring in the way. This mechanic obviously knew Enfield engines backwards and forwards and had spent decades wrenching.. I tried to imagine myself doing this job. No Way, Man. I think a competent mechanic, familiar with the design could (probably) do this without botching it, I personally don't have the skills.
@FoxParasyte
@FoxParasyte 9 ай бұрын
I saw that video, apparently you need 3 specific tools that hitchcock has on their site. The video was horribly filmed for a instructional. I could never do it myself. As for the exhaust. Without the baffle it's definitely loud, but nowhere near ear splitting the same way a Harley is like with a obnoxious exhaust. It's both nowhere near as loud as the Yoshimura slip on for my Kawasaki versys 300 or the Basanni on my Yamaha Bolt. With the Baffle it's much more tame in decibels. I get tons of compliments on the exhaust from people.
@andrewoh1663
@andrewoh1663 5 ай бұрын
I have the 350 Meteor, which has the same motor. Instead of replacing the exhaust, the Meteor has a separate exhaust catalyst which hides in front of the back wheel. Hitchcock's offers a 'decat' modification which is just a straight pipe with brackets so that the cat can be removed, thus straightening the exhaust flow and removing 5kg of weight. In addition, I have installed the one tooth larger gearbox sprocket. This has made the practical cruising speed several kph higher. It also probably improves the fuel consumption on an already frugal bike. I thoroughly recommend this mod. The fuelx results surprises me. It might be that this unit richens the mixture, which would add a little power and make the engine run cooler. Modern bike engines have to run awfully weak to meet Euro 5 emissions regulations so this would make sense. Oh and my speedo is dead accurate.

The news to me here is that the Hitchcock exhaust is not a performance upgrade if it causes choppiness, popping, and severe engine braking. Now you put this thing in to mitigate things. Good. But remember folks, a smoother more open exhaust is not a guarantee of better riding, even if ur helps in certain RPM ranges.

The abs rings are both the spedo calibration and the speed limiter. If someone were to make an abs ring that fit the bike but had fewer holes in it, that would change the spedo an raise the top speed. Assuming the photos online are accurate, the front abs ring has 44 holes. If someone was to cad one up with 42 holes an have that made, the spedo would lose about 4mph at 70 to 75 an the bike would gain that in top speed. The ABS should still work. This assumes both systems are using the front ABS ring an not the back one. The back one in photos has 28 holes an the math does not divide well. 27 holes would be to little of a change an 26 would be to much. But either one would still work an be closer. The fact that they are not the same makes me think the one with more holes is the one it uses. More holes means more accurate a smaller percentage change when adding or removing holes. I have thought about buying one just to play with this. I need a new bike anyway. But an actual 75mph top speed is the minimum top speed I would want in a new bike. My current 230cc bike does 60.

Speedometers are deliberately set 5 to 10 kph faster than actual road speed by the manufacturer. Cars and bikes are both set this way; probably trucks too. So your 0 to 100 kph speed test should be 0 -110kph. From Australia, hence the metric stuff. Divide kilometers by 1.609344 to get mph. Nice video.

You hit on one of the issues with the bike and why getting more performance can damage the bike and that is the HEAT. The cam should add about 5HP and increase your 0-60 to about 8.5-9.5 but that HEAT build-up can damage your head because the valves will melt so maybe change the valves too! RE was using a 2 piece metal manufacturing method for the valves and that will fail if you increase any power(heat) for the cylinder, that is if they are still using the 2 piece metal in the valves. I think they do have replacement valves for this very reason... can't wait for the cam.. I am also looking for a 2nd bike for my commute I have a harley but the gas mileage is horrible.... I would love something with 60+ MPG and what is keeping me from buying the Scramm411 is performance but maybe with some simple upgrades it will be fine...

Hi Foxxy, just watched this video of your beautiful RE 350 Classic : 1. Almost all cars and bikes have the same issue reference the over-reading of the odometer. In the past it was explained to me that manufacturers do this deliberately to help customers avoid speeding fines. Also most authorities eg Police, etc usually allow for a 10% inaccuracy of the speedo. So if you are doing any comparison testing you just need to decide which speed source ref you're going to use and stick to it always eg speedo, GPS Dragy or whatever - just be consistent when attempting to identify the effects of modification products. By the way, just for your interest it's a bit like when manufacturers of cars and bikes publish the engine power details XXX bhp for engine. Did you know that factory claims are not based on rear wheel figures ? Very often not even based on a tested "at the crank" method ? It is based on a mathematical calculation of what an engine of a certain type/specification should produce !!!!!!!!! Never seen a bench test, dyno or any other measuring device. So for example when your 350 is dyno tested they usually come out at approximately 15 bhp at the rear wheel as opposed to the published 20 bhp. So if you can get yours back to a dyno tested 20 bhp at the wheel you have increased the actual power by approximately 33% !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@FoxParasyte
@FoxParasyte 3 ай бұрын
Honestly, if i were to go back in time. I would have bought a Dragy first before even making this series. Everything fell into place at weird times and i had no idea this series would take off as much as it has for me. I take responsibility for that 100%. BUT because i have WERKS as a partner they should be fine with me taking a stock Classic and running numbers vs my bike after i have the cam upgrade installed. I know that doesn't exactly show every step of the mod process but it's still going to be very interesting to see a real world difference in all the mods and upgrades vs a bone stock bike. In the future if i ever make a new series that is like PRE. I'll be far more ready to showcase numbers before and after whatever modification i'm doing.

Go to a larger circumference tire and you will get a more accurate speedo. Go to a 4wd forum or look for a gear ratio page and you can input your exact gearing (probably 1:1. In top gear) and by adjusting your tire dia you can find what size tire (or tyre in the UK) diameter to put on your bike to get exact calibration. For instance I changed from the stock 29" to 32.5" tires on my Jeep and now the speedo reads perfect with my gps speedo. Hope I explained that good enough. Be aware going to a larger tire will lower effective torque and acceleration slightly. For what you would need it would probably be unnoticed.
@Ijusthopeitsquick
@Ijusthopeitsquick 4 ай бұрын
Changing the front tyre diameter won't affect torque or acceleration, since only the rear wheel is connected to the drive train. In practical terms, it will also be difficult to find a suitable tyre with a significantly larger diameter.
@goatman3828
@goatman3828 4 ай бұрын
@@Ijusthopeitsquick why? Rims come in all sizes. Easy enough to move fender height. Have no idea what your 'front tire' is about.
@Ijusthopeitsquick
@Ijusthopeitsquick 4 ай бұрын
Why? Because you can't just put any size wheel on a bike, for legal reasons as well as fitment and geometry reasons, and because bike tyres don't come in a wide range of sidewall heights. As for the effect on torque, I should have thought it is obvious that a bike only has one driven wheel, the back one, so changing the diameter of the front has no effect on the overall gearing ratio.@@goatman3828

All speedos are inacurate and you might be thankfull for it because it'll prevent you a speeding ticket. You're reference speedo is the Enfield's and you noticed a shorter 0-60 which is great. If you can comfortably commute you'll have a winner regardless the stats. I do have a Moto Guzzi Griso which is highly advised not to remove the stock filter but only open the airbox a little more to allow the entry of fresh air more easely while maintaining the best particle filter. There is no need to open the filter even more by a K&N if it has the max it can take already. A K&N is often refered as a "stone mesh" not catching fine particles which will clogg the intake and damage the combustion chamber eventually. It looks like your filter is similar like a K&N mesh. You may give this some thoughts. This Classic is a lovely bike and clearly shows it's not about the destiny. This bike is ASMR.

I wouldnt say all are. My yamaha bolt is dead on for whatever reason. But you do make a fair point about being pulled over. I would love to see a Guzzi, they're not a thing by me at all but I've always loved their look. Same with Norton. Yeah its borderline the same as an oiled K&N. I think if i was riding in dusty conditions or on trails id want nothing to do with these types of filters. But its not something I'm overly worried about... Yet. Ill keep an eye on all of that especially when i deal with the Cam upgrade. Again you bring up good points. I love my classic, its such a lovely bike. As described in the schematics, I have connected the fuel x in same way and connected ground to batteries negative terminal. Any reason why it's only blinking RED and that too 7 times in a row? 2) Check engine light is always on since the fuel x installation. I know I can reset it but in context of 1 observation, can anyone suggest what this means, what's happening with my bike. The engine response is same as it was before, no change, no change in firing.

Since the FuelX connects to the lambda sensor only, you will likely not feel much of a difference with the throttle wide open because in several vehicles (maybe even most) the ECU goes into open loop mode in that situation and ignores the lambda signal. The biggest difference is seen in the low and mid range. The FuelX Lite on my 2019 390 Duke has improved the low end torque and made it easier to ride in the city. It also idles better and is smoother up to about 6000 rpm. The rest of the bike is stock. The ground wire is new. I got my Lite over a year ago and it does not have the ground lead. This device seems to benefit RE bikes the most. I do want one of these for my Interceptor too but I don't want to mess about with the warranty. Being a twin cylinder bike, removing the FuelX Lite before going to the company service centre will be a major pain. In fact, my Interceptor is in the workshop right now for replacement of the headers under warranty. I have already got the valve clearance adjusters replaced under warranty so I want to keep it! But that was a huge difference in the temperature of your bike's header! Decisions, decisions... Since I am short on funds, the decision is easier. I cannot afford it right now. As for the speedo, I think it's a legal requirement in some places. Some vehicles have more accurate speedometers. They read closer to the actual speed like the one on my 390 here in India (km per hour). They are not allowed to read lower than the true speed, though.

@@FoxParasyte Well, mine is a 2019 390 Duke so it is the second gen with ride by wire throttle (which I hate) and the colour TFT screen. The ride by wire throttle robbed the engine of the raw, peppy nature it had in the first generation. The throttle response was mellowed down because of the electronics. Low end torque is very poor, though the FuelX Lite improved it a bit. At high revs, the throttle has a slight while changing gears. Other than that, it's great. Excellent suspension so it has more grip in a variety of situations and is surprisingly capable of absorbing big bumps. The handling is telepathic! Brakes are excellent too. The colour TFT dash is fine. You can have a lot of info on it if you need it. The layout of the tachometer and speedometer is easy to read. The speedometer error is only about 2 kmph or so. I have test ridden the Classic 350 (the J-series like yours) as well as the new Bullet 350 and I like how nice, welcoming and easy to ride they are. In Indian city traffic, the 350 is easier to ride than my 390 Duke because you can leave it in one gear and putter around. The 390 has to be kept on the boil and doesn't seem to have the character that the Classic 350 has. Bottom-line: They are different flavours. Have you seen the new 390 Duke, though? It's faster now and has even better handling according to all the reviews.

We do not have the Bullet here in the US. I think it's something they're re-releasing. I kinda hope they don't. I want to see a 500cc single classic here. I'd love that. I've always been fond of the Duke 200 and Duke 390. I hear people have problems with those bikes with reliability but i've wondered if that is because they do not take care of the bikes. I've seen the newer Dukes in person. The dealer where i got my Kawasaki from carries the KTM bikes. I think they're very neat looking. But honestly i've never ridden a KTM before ever.

@@FoxParasyte The new Bullet 350 based on the J-platform now just like your Classic 350. Just imagine a Classic 350 with a different seat and a more angular rear mudguard. It also has a more pronounced thump in the exhaust note. A 500 based on the J-platform is something several people want but is unlikely to be made because of the narrow gap between the 350 and the 650. They also need to launch and perfect their upcoming 452 cc water-cooled engine. The bike you see in my profile pic is my 2012 200 Duke. Early batch. It has been a money pit but unfortunately I will not be able to sell it now because of some reasons I should not share. In the first year and 14000 km, the engine was opened thrice under warranty because the airbox was getting flooded with engine oil, soaking the air filter. They could not fix the issue after replacing the valves, the coolant pump shaft seal and the cylinder-piston kit, the last item twice! Finally they gave me a new engine which was a permanent solution. Other things replaced under warranty - fuel pump, fuel tank, fuel tank shroud, the console, airbox and rear monoshock. Things replaced on my own dime after the warranty was over - fuel pump (again), wiring harness, console (again) and the regulator-rectifier unit. Things that need replacement now - the console (yet again) and the ECU. It has always been well maintained. These were all quality issues. The wheels and the entire chassis have been replaced at different times due to accidental damage. The bike has done a total of 51000 km. My 390 Duke has done only about 8000 km and I have been irregular with the periodic maintenance. Zero issues, zero warranty claims. The lesson here is to avoid the early batches. The later the model is in the KTM product lifecycle, the more reliable it will be. On the other hand, the 2020 to 2023 390 Duke has the exhaust routed under the engine because of stricter emission norms (BS6 or Euro5). It runs so lean that it tends to stall if the throttle body collects the tiniest bit of grime. Mine is a BS4 (Euro4) so it doesn't run as lean. The exhaust header is routed around the cylinder block. I've flooded you with info now. I hope it was helpful.
