The CV boot on mine ripped open and slung grease everywhere, thankfully mine didn't come all the way apart and break the block. Sorry for your bad luck with yours.

There isn't much track content about the 2AR. That would probably be a hit on youtube. Its also a very reasonable track engine for the car. Marc tore his down after a decade and 30,000 miles of lemons and found that there was one bad seal (the reason he tore it down) and everything else was still within factory tolerances. It's hard to argue with reliability like that. However, I really like the idea of a 2GR build. Its very common on the SW20 but I cant find any youtube videos about it in a Mk3 chassis. And when you compare Marc's views on his 2AR and 2GR developments, its clear that the 2GR draws a lot of traffic. Yes it would be a good bit heavier than the 1zz, but I'm sure it would be a blast around track. You might have too much trouble getting it to grip. It would be a great experiement since very very few have been done.

Both excellent suggestions. The 2AR has sparked my interest lately. I’ve driven the a 2GR SW20 on track and it’s pretty fun, but I’m not sure if the 2GR would be appropriate for the MRS… it may throw the balance off despite having excellent torque and power. Looks exactly what hapoened to me. In my situation i saw it was a combination of a poor passenger engine mount, along with poor suspension geometry in the rear snd soft suspension settings. The biggest issue is the cars rest sub frame which puts lowered vehicles at rosk of poor suspension geometry. Then next is the lack of cv travel which unfortunately no one has addressed. But that can be compensated for with stiffer rear suspension settings. All of this will be made worse if anything in the system is failing, like in my situation the passenger engine mount. Hopefully this possibly helos shed light on your situation. I hate to see that you're end result looks possibly even worse than mine was.

Looks almost identical to your incident. Truth b told, I’ve discovered the root cause and will share my findings in the next Project Silver episode. Appreciate your comments and insight Aaron.

Sorry to see this happen. That's quite the failure. I'd love to see a high revving 2AR with cams and upgraded valvetrain. I like that motor but it's such a low revver out of the box (similar with the 2GR) and for NA engines I like revs!

There’s a lot of popular ones already done. If you wish to go for a popular one, there’s a lot of choices. If you wish to go for lesser-known territory, an LS Swap would be the way to go, or any V8. Or maybe a Toyota UR engine series? Anyways. A 2JZ would be absolutely insane to see on an MR2-Spyder, but I guess that might be a challenge as it is a bit bigger from what I recall. I also heard someone put a Rotary engine into his MR2, but I have yet to find any video guide for it. It would be insane to see that but I highly doubt you’d do that, would you? (At least that engine is insanely easy to rebuild so that’s why I’m interested in it).

That'll buff out. 😄 Not quite so dramatic, but I had a bearing turn into confetti on track, so now I'm working on replacing the F22 with a K24. There's a number of ways you can go with the engine, but I'm going to have to go with Kswap the world. I plan on putting a K20 in my AW11 when I finish with the S2000.

I got tired of typical 1zz problems myself and did k24. I still like 1zz just k24 is better in most ways

@@supers0nic77 there are no 1ZZ problems. Even w bad rings and burning lots of oil, as long as u keep oil in her she’s good

Sad to see this 🥲. My passenger side axle is always throwing grease as well, good thing I'm having them rebuilt right now. Do you know if yours were OEM toyota axles or perhaps aftermarket? I have so many track miles on mine, so I wonder if it was just a cheap axle.

It was definitely a bummer when I discovered it was more than just a broken axle. When I was at the track I didn’t see the hole in the girdle bc it was covered on CV grease. I believe mine was an OEM axle. In the next Project Silver video I’ll address the root cause and explain how to prevent this from happening. Thx for watching and commenting. Pls subscribe. It is super sad, but that’s racing. We will figure it out and choose a new path… that’s why it’s called Relentless Racing. We will keeping moving forward and continue to learn.

@@RelentlessRacingAJ Ive been looking at some of the SXS engines out there thinking of adapting one to a standard transmission. especially since some motorcycle engine swaps are gaining popularity and proving capable.

2AR-FXE. Takes quite a few fiddly bits to make it work in a Spyder, but the engines are widely available and usually lightly used. Gives you additional compression and power versus a 2AR, and an option for a low cost long duration cam upgrade.

I believe the 2AR-FXE is the hybrid version correct? How much is that motor? What fiddly bits are you referring to? I saw gears and gasoline do that swap and it’s pretty interesting. Definitely a viable option. How is it on track?

@@RelentlessRacingAJ the motors are relatively inexpensive. It can be converted from at Atkinson cycle to an Otto cycle with some cam timing changes. You also need a flywheel, transmission, transmission and engine mounts, body controller, starter, alternator, water pump, intake manifold, throttle body, header, midpipe, drive by wire pedal, wire harness, ECU, axles, and shifter mods to make it work in a Spyder. Frankenstein Motorworks details most of this on their website.

I am glad I found your channel.... I am building my 08 yaris S hatch 1.5 into a canyon weapon that can also get groceries. I have replaced the suspension, A arms, Bushings, Bearings, front brakes, rims and tires.... Now it's time for power... I'm dreaming of 230hp... 160 - 180 seems realistic... Seems like I would need a forged engine and a turbo... What are your goals for power and how do you plan to achieve it with the 1zz?

I like the 1ZZ, but by no means is it a power maker. For the MRS, I will swapping the motor. I have several MRS’ so u will see different swaps in the future.

The 1ZZ can handle some boost, but if I was goin to boost a 1ZZ, I would install at the bare minimum forged rods and pistons.
