Project Smart Fortwo W450 rear brake repair / wheel cylinder replacement

In this video we fix the rear brakes on our project car. The "spongy" brakes seem to be due to leaking rear wheel cylinders and also part of the rear brake lining has become detached from the brake shoe. Interesting the replacement wheel cylinders were cast iron - not aluminium like the originals.

That reminds me of my old Mini days with my 1961 Austin Se7en which used to need rear cylinders every year! Good work on finding the state they were in but maybe worrying as regards the quality of its servicing in the past. I’m sure you will sort it out! Happy New Year!!!!😀😀😀😀

years ago you just changed the seals and not the full cylinders loving the site as a old mechanic all the problems

I cant believe how rusty this is, has it been driven in the sea ? The brake shoe separation can be very dangerous, I had a bonded lining shoe come off and move around the drum, leaving me with no brakes at all, not even the hand brake would work, you do not get that problem with riveted linings.
