Sorry about the mess, but love the old Mopars. My first car was a '69 Coronet 500. Not a street racer with a 318, 2-bbl but I agree with you; beautiful body lines for sure. Re: recurving the diz. I understand that some guys love fiddling with the inside of a distributor and dropping tiny parts on the floor, but I would recommend a Progression Ignition unit. I got one a year ago for my '65 Impala and I curve it from my cell phone. Love it. BTW, I am running 24* initial timing at idle, 29* in drive at 600 RPM with no vac advance at idle but additional 10* added in sequentially from 1500-3000 RPM.
@DeadDodgeGarage9 ай бұрын
I totally like the idea of quickly and easily changing a timing curve, but I have zero interest in putting a little computer inside my distributor that I have to talk to with an app. I just don’t want that in my classic car. I hope that makes sense.

When I clean up fluid leaks I use either a 6 inch or a 4 inch drywall knife and a metal dust pan. I use the knife to push the fluid into the dust pan and just dump it into a drain pan until most of fluid is removed. That method removes fluid amazingly quickly and minimizes the amount of mess and rags needed to remove the spill. Try it next time you will be amazed at how efficient it is at removing fluid spills.

In the late 80s I bought a 67 Dart GT-S hardtop with the leaning tower of cower I mean power. As many of my friends were also gearheads and my dad was cool with project cars, this car was beautiful and not a project, I could have easily swapped K members and did as a friend did which was 340 heads on a newer 318, purple cam, steel crank etc and swapped the driveline out too. It was kept the way it left the factory like the many other survivors I've had from VWs to my daily which is even rarer at 12,300 total built over 3 years. Use it or lose it.

My Dad had an issue with green cars. Every time he owned one or worked on one, things quickly deteriorated into a pile of Anglo-Saxon adjectives, nouns and the occasional verb. This was due to how many things would go wrong and the frequency with which they happened. He was a Ford man originally, but when I tried to explain this to him as a naïve 16-year-old, I ended up with the imprint of a 9/16th open-ended spanner on my forehead for a couple of days until the swelling went down. Did you know they make a unique "whucka-whucka-whucka" sound before they hit you? I learned something that day - not to turn around when you hear "whucka-whucka-whucka" quickly approaching from behind you unless you wish to experience an intense pain....but I digress. Actually, it didn't matter the breed. Dad's green cars had issues with parking brakes and kids who'd been left in the car releasing them, said parking brake letting go on its own and the car taking out a letter box...made of bricks, people backing into them in carparks or builder's yards...with their tow-bar hitting Dad's car first. In fact, at least two were written off by drunk drivers going through intersections when they shouldn't. If Dad was going to end up with a dent in his car, the universe used to wait until said car was green. The only car he wrecked that wasn't green, was black....and it was MY car. No, it wasn't a Ford either. Me? In a Ford??? Dad would start working on someone's green car - and just like you in this video, whatever he was working on would be going well and then some other random item would suddenly decide it was time to expire.....or he'd take it for a test drive (with the bloke he was doing the work for) and something else would sh** itself. In the end, one mate or another would ring up and ask if Dad had a bit of time free to work on his car and Dad's first question would be "Is it green?". If it was, then no. No he didn't have time then....or next week....or any other date in the future that they may think of. He'd say something like "Try me last week. Or maybe the weekend before that, because I wasn't busy then". Mates of mine turned up from time to time to show him their cars, as they thought he'd enjoy seeing them. Dad would walk out and say "Oh. It's green" and they'd say "Yeah! You wanna go for a drive in it, Phil?" to which he'd reply "Nah, mate. Sorry. I'm washing my hair in a minute". Dad was bald.... Fortunately, once I explained to them (out of Dad's hearing) that Dad is pretty much allergic to green cars and they tend to disagree with his stable mindset, my mates understood and the disappointment of not having his apparent approval of their recent purchase was nullified. Some things are inherited through bloodlines and while I have owned green cars without issue, my sister has owned precisely two. One got written off when she was going straight ahead on a green light and someone turned right in front of her with no chance for her to stop. The second, she was going through an intersection on a green light when she was T-boned by a drunk driver who was being chased by two police cars. She had left her kids at home with me while she ran a few errands (you know how it is getting kids in and out of car seats at multiple destinations!) but had I not popped over to have a coffee with her that morning and had her son been in his car seat at the time, he would not be here today as his car seat - a top of the line model - was crushed, in several pieces and pinned between the passenger's rear door and the rear seat it was mounted to. The car was hit so hard in the B-pillar that she got smacked in the face with air bags AND the head rest of the passenger's front seat because the floor was concertinad in that far. Honestly, if you looked in through the rear window, you could see the window sill of the rear door in line with the centre-right of the rear view mirror and the passenger's front seat lying over the top of the centre console with its top third in the driver's seat. A very lucky escape......so when she was recently offered an immaculate 1966 Mustang GT with all the options and with a 4-spd manual floor shift as a straight swap for her 6-year-old 4WD Toyota pickup (luxury model with all the fruit), as much as the Muzzie was everything she wanted, she turned it down flat because it was a beautiful shade of dark green metallic. Good call, I thought. My reason for bringing this up? Maybe that green Coronet had it in for you the same way as those other green cars had it in for Dad when he was working on them! Do you own any green cars? How reliable have they been and do they try to run you over or hit random things? There could be something to this.....

I installed one of those Summit electronic distributor upgrade kits in my '72 W200, and it would start and run great, but after 15 min. of driving, it would usually lose spark when trying to re-start. Turned out to be that bent pickup increasing the gap out of spec. That small gap increase at the wide end of the bent pickup causes a loss of spark after things heat up. Seems that bent pickup is a feature they all come with from Summit.

Yes, that’s why I chose that cap to drill holes in. I am only using it to check rotor phasing. I made sure the slot is lined up with the intact side. It’s absolutely transmission fluid, so it has to be coming from the front pump / torque converter seal.

In what regard? Fueling differences based on operating temperature? That’s kind of beyond my pay grade. There is a lot to getting the fuel mixture right in a particular combination. The best way I know (without a wide band or other wizardry) is by listening to the engine, watching and smelling the exhaust, and reading the plugs.

Thanks for the reply. Short of buying an AFR gauge. Will a higher temperature idle cleaner.

Since it’s a hard top they should have cloned an R/T, other than the obvious act of not cloning it at all, but what I’m seeing looks like a nice car.

She's Gorgeous! I'm gonna call her "Nipple" or "NPLE". It stands for "Nice Parts, Lousy Execution" Cause it leaks Everywhere! Need I say more? I'm gonna anyways Jamie especially since it's not your fault and shouldn't hurt your feelings. Let's assume every clamp & bolt is loose and every gasket & seal is installed incorrectly! Yay! I do love her though... I can afford about $250.00/Mo. at this time. Think he'll go for it? Me neither but keep us up to date, and keep your eyes peeled for something for me preferably big block (383s are my favorite, um yummy!) BTW, this was the color of my 2nd Roadrunner, then some knucklehead sprayed it corvette yellow... yuck. Love this show man.

I had that video on the ‘67 Charger a couple months ago that was almost exactly the same… I’d heard a video of it running and it really just sounded like it needed a quick tune. It needed so much more than a quick tune… this is the way.
