That should have been a min 10 beer episode. Great ingenuity as always and lots of patience! Your attention to detail is superb. Congrats on the new arrival to you and Mrs Byrne too!

Always a bit of an issue as to " how hard to hit the bastard" . Glad to see you didn't lose heart when the head of the sledge hammer came off . Sit down , regroup get a bigger hammer and go again. Great stuff Colin .

Peugeot rally man here watching from Ireland. Some of the larger Pugs may have a CV joint to fit the 306 hub but also have a bigger shaft spline. Peugeot 806/Expert van etc.
@105colin4 жыл бұрын
Hey mate, thanks for the tip, I did have a good look through the CV catalogues, but didn't come across that one, will definitely keep it in mind if this combination doesn't work out

@@105colin Let me know the spline count for both hub & shaft & I will look into it. We may have parts available here that you guys didnt get down under.
@105colin4 жыл бұрын
Thanks, we'll the original pug hub and was 25 and I've had it machined to 27, but could pretty easily get another set. As far as the cv goes really looking for the biggest axle I can find. Pretty sure I'm going to be getting some custom axles

@@105colin Was looking into how to get some over to you. 2.5 liters max I am allowed to send you, even as a gift, else you end up paying huge taxes. Another great video again; definitely the best build (of many) I am watching or have watched. Not all CV joints are this difficult. I have freed various Japanese and German versions with light-ish tap on the inside face. Obviously corrosion was not an issue with the amount of grease about. It seems disproportionately tight for its purpose? I spy your Arduino dash panel is mounted, presumably reading the fuel level sensors now in the tanks. I'm looking forward to the wiring, ECU and tuning episodes. Thanks, keep the videos coming.
@105colin4 жыл бұрын
I have no idea why those clip rings were so tight, I have heard alfa ones can be pretty bad. Well spotted, that was just a stunt double dash for fitting purposes, plenty of work behind the scenes on the wiring /electrical side, most of that will happen once the chassis is painted as well as the wiring harness won't really be removable

Great vids and work as usual. Any reason you went with two pumps and the associated fittings and controls etc and not just a jet pump on the return line?
@105colin3 жыл бұрын
Thanks mate, yea a couple of reasons, I thought 2 pumps in series may help with the pressure drop across the long pipes I need to run, but mostly it was about redundancy, if 1 pump fails we should be able to limp home on 1pump, could be the difference between finishing a rally or not
@benheynen27053 жыл бұрын
@@105colin fair but simplicity is also the way to go with this stuff, I see you have a big alternator to run the two pumps as well, then bugger brakes to stop that mass and more boost to offset the brakes.... All adds up!
@105colin3 жыл бұрын
I hear what your saying, but not a huge amount of extra complexity really. As for the big alternator, well a bigger single pump is going to draw more current than a smaller pump, maybe not twice as much, but your really only starting to talk about a couple of amps, the water pumps don't actually draw all that much current, special when they are PWM. As for weight, we're talking less than 1kg, and I'll take that hit for the redundancy factor. When your 100km away from your service vehicle in the middle of the Aussie bush, a bit of redundancy is very comforting! cheers
