Wow, finally a sample with Mover and on top of that an easier AsyncPhysics showcase on how to really use that thing as there is ZERO docs about it. If someone at epic reads this, please add some documentation about AsyncPhysicsTick, from setup, thru structures and why, when and how to use it, as there is nothing.

I just wanted to check it out, I loaded 4 regions, my GPU started whistling and my laptop turned off 💀 RIP my good old RTX 2060, I knew it was coming but I didn't expect it will come from a sample project. Anyway it's a great source of assets and knowledge on how to build open worlds.
@samuelbass-epicgames16 күн бұрын
I'd recommend loading in just one region at a time if your hardware is struggling, it's a massive (64km) environment.

@SamuTheFrog15 күн бұрын
Bro, it's a 2060. Call me out of touch, but technology will stale out if we stop pushing it forward just cause some people don't wanna upgrade their literally 2 generation out of date hardware. Top that, it's literally the low/budget end of the rtx 20 series. You just cannot expect to able to run modern, bleeding edge, new technology at high performance. You realize not that long ago, this was common practice? Throwing out your old hardware so you can have the latest and greatest software?? Yeah.... What changed? Nothing. People just forgot that's literally how this industry works.
@SamuTheFrog15 күн бұрын
I'd 100% understand an agree *if* your card was a 4060, or even a 3070 would be understandable, but not a 2060 in 2024 on Unreal Engine 5.5 bro. Come on, how dense can you be? I'd even understand if this was a *game* , but it is not, it's a *developer asset pack* , meant to be used as a sample project by *DEVELOPERS* , who typically aren't running your low end, outdated hardware. *If you do stubbornly insist on using your old hardware* , then here is an idea, *dont use ue5 known for being on the bleeding edge numnuts* Go use Unity, or since you are apparently cheap as balls, Godot. Simple solution to a simple problem that only exists because you think the world should wait on you?

Very cool video and teachable!! Me as a generalist and a lot of times in charge of optimization, I cannot stress enough how important is that modelers do their assets optimized out of the box... It decreases overall dev time and stress 😂, making the project more enjoyable to work on 😊👍

This is very cool and useful, thank you for releasing it! My heart aches when I think about Unity's Gigaya and how it was cancelled by clueless management. I really hope that the new management will see the value in projects like Titan and will do their version of it. As for Titan: I am very interested in the character movement setup, I will definitely check it out in the near future. Thank you!

Fab and other changes have made for much much more work, barriers and annoyance before I'm able to get to some actual work and creating. It makes me a lot less motivated and keeps me from doing the work sometimes. Also their reasoning for removing the reviews/questions part is flawed imo. Sure it was being abused, but it also offered incredibly important information as to the value of a product. Why not make sure to implement systems and rules that make sure any abuse is mitigated or minimised, instead of simply removing them.

Amazing! I find it interesting that in order to get etuff done at a large scale there needs to be a move away from full "whqt you see is what you get" and into pipelines - spawners, terrain generators, splines etc. Art pipeline is still very important! This acts as some great RnD for showing people that you have to be intentional about your workflow and dont expect a game engine to hand you everything. Competence and thought is still required

Some of the 'issues' talked about were great but would have loved to have more details on how to fix, why they are bad, or if there are steps to be made for future people to better detect/avoid/fix these issues? e.g. The decal footsteps issue, were they just 'removed', or was there a better solution for it? I will open up later and look for that one specifically, but just curious about general other things too.

waiit, nanite doesn't work unless the mesh has smoothing group info??
@sephtv275916 күн бұрын
It does, but faceted faces are much harder to break down into clusters and ensure a clean nanite decimation as it tries to preserve detail and faceted faces confuse it and thus you'll end up with drawing more triangles than you need for that specific mesh, aka worse performance.

The WPO [Distance] Issue is really something Epic should of addressed & simplified in Engine with a set of.. options like LOD0-LOD4 except distance settings 200-20000 For example, obviously trial & error testing would need to be done, But it would of been a good overlooked feature for 5.5 Among other missing landscape improvements.

100 operations per material is excessive. It is 100 operations per pixel just to get a base color. No wonder UE is regarded as a slow and unoptimized engine if people start from such samples.

@huttyblue11 күн бұрын
Just turn off Lumen, Nanite, VirtualShadowMaps, and anything related to raytracing. The base rendering with those disabled is pretty close to what late UE4 was using. Switching the engine to DirectX 11 mode might also help, depending on your setup.

COMPLETE MESS: -You allowed to basically anyone to throw any crap in there: The result is a bad mix of different designed (stylized, realistic, phantasy...) models (low-mid-high poly...), all kinds of materials from single color to high-res PBR texture sets. -All those assets brought may cause problems, are not optimised and dont have quality standards. So people could basically only find out by themselfs the hard way what the later problems are. -The size of 100GB is pretty much wasted, even if people would use some assets, as those are basically free assets from all over the web. So if people want some of that no-quality assets, they can get them from the web directly. - Unfortunately we dont have good UE standards and quality human control here as we had from the old Unreal marketplace anymore, just like on FAB. So if you want lots of no-quality crap thrown together without searching capabilities, use this project or FAB.
