That's right a 4 core / 8 threaded CPU on 32nm for less than $20... It doesn't get much better than that. This is the E5640.

Your build logs are the best I've seen on KZbin, and definitely the most interesting. You've actually inspired me to make my own sub $300 gaming, scrapyard PC. Keep it up man. Love the content :D

Dude, I have to say something. I found you off of Techsource around a month ago and I got to say, you're a really good KZbinr and I love your content. Everyone else in the "KZbinr Setup" had generic content that's over saturated on KZbin. However, you my friend were different. Your content isn't generic and is special considering not a lot of KZbinrs do this type of stuff. I've watched all your videos since. Man, keep up the great work!

+Tech YES City I gotta redo my entire system this weekend. New 500 GB 850 EVO boot SSD, and that 1 TB Seagate HDD (which is now OVER 9 years old, still runs without ANY errors! Only problem is - it is now filled!) - Is going to be ghosted to a Brand new Seagate Constellation ES.3 4 TB HDD! Which has 128 MB cache, and actual reviews show it to be reliably fast - easily able to hit it's quoted 195 MB/sec read and 180/sec write, even under heavy mixed loads with high queue depth, it tends to stay near or above 100 MB/sec in read and write! I STILL don't understand why you and Joker CLAIM to have had so many issues with Seagate... Between myself, my father and my brother, all MY customer - who are generally home users, and all of my Father's customers - who are largely dentists and a few doctors, ALL OF the machines built by my Dad or myself, ALL OF THEM - use Seagate HDDs for mass storage. And the amount that comes back, is actually disproportionately LOW, compared to the Plextors and, yes - even Hitachi and Western Digital drives that were MOSTLY installed by other people or companies, but even ones myself or the company my dad works with (Yes, I am a fully grown 30 year old man, but I do still live with my Dad, as we both do the same kind of work, and get along fantastically as our interests are the same as well.) - We have had more of the WDs, Hitachi, and other brands die and need replaced - and they are usually replaced with a brand new Seagate. But ever since I heard you and Joker say that, I now wish I had been keeping actual DATA on it! Because the fact is, between my customers and his clients, we have COUNTLESS Seagate HDDs and a VERY LOW failure rate, especially when talking about the Constellation series and the new Archive series (while not good at all for personal use, due to TERRIBLE mixed load throughput) - HDD testing and reviewing shows the Archive series to be INCREDIBLY reliable! Not to mention my HEAVILY used 1 TB, off the shelf, outdated, and compared to the ES.3, VERY slow - Seagate Barracuda 16MB cache 7200 RPM HDD still runs PERFECTLY! The Archive series is something VERY new in that it is a Shingled Magnetic Array drive that can be used on ANY computer (with SATA or SAS) due to the SMR being drive managed! Which is the NEW part! Shingled Magnetic Array HDDs are really VERY interesting as to how they work versus Standard, or "Parallel Magnetic Array" drives, such as the Constellation ES.3. SMR (Shingled Magnetic Array) actually OVERLAPS the tracks on the HDD, which allows for far greater density, and due to the way the tracks are aligned, SUPPOSEDLY it is a MUCH harder to corrupt or damage storage medium than standard PMR HDDs. But this is also why they are absolutely terrible for mixed loads! Because whenever the drive needs to write, it MUST start with the first track, which is to say the track that is half overlapped by something like 6 more tracks in front of it, as such, IF the drive were to TRY to write on the 6th track of the Shingled array, it would Overwrite ALL DATA on every track behind it! So, 2 things MUST OCCUR for an SMR drive to be able to write: the drive cannot be performing ANY OTHER functions at the time, at least to get any amount of speed to said write (as the on-drive Management of Seagate's Archive SMR HDDs do MANY things similar to a SSD, such as trim and garbage collection) - as the drive must align the heads PERFECTLY (or to be certian, with precision somewhere on the order of 10 fold the precision required for a similarly dense PMR HDD) - so that once the writing cycle begins - the drive will not overwrite any data. And once the drive is ready to write, ALL data that is to be written MUST BE written PERFECTLY sequentially! SMR HDDs apparently have existed for quite some time now, BUT, before the Seagate Archive drives, they were incredibly RARE! Because almost all older SMR drives REQUIRE the Operating System to perform ALL of these functions, and that presents 2 additional problems : firstly if an SMR drive is OS managed, that means said OS will slow down significantly whenever a write was needed. And secondly, there are NO commercially available Operating Systems than CAN manage a Shingled Magnetic Array drive!

Always appreciate builds like these that showcase just how much value can be had if you go back a few generations. Best part is that platform still has a lot more headroom despite being nearly seven years old at this point. Can still handle the highest end graphics cards if someone really wanted to go down that route; although it does make me wonder if pascal will finally push them to their limits.

That's a strong-ass CPU for $15 . I'd suggest next time that you try your current-gen high-end GPU's in these systems to see if they perform well of show any bottlenecks ( which I won't think it would ) . It would also help people who want to go the used-parts-route decide on how to upgrade their system bit by bit .

3dmark score isn't that bad. Though I was expecting a bit higher for some reason. I recently made a build with the G3258 and 7870 (r9 270x). Scored a little less than this rig, I had parts already laying around so the build only costed me around $150 out of my pocket. It doesn't compare to my main rig, but these budget builds are very capable if you have some knowledge on what to get. Here is my score btw. 5253 with AMD Radeon HD 7870(1x) and Intel Pentium G3258 My G3258 is clocked at 4.6ghz @1.32volts.

+Thomas The Fap Engine I actually started a small business flipping PCs a few years back. I've since stopped because the weak Canadian dollar makes it too hard to turn a profit. I did about $30,000 in sales with a gross margin of around 15% (~$4500 profit). Plus I got to own and play around with a bunch of really cool hardware in the process. One tip that I have for you is that your limiting factor should ALWAYS be not enough good deals on components. That is, if you arent finding that your business volume is limited by not enough great deals, youre paying too much for your parts. I learned the hard way with a couple of small losses. Good luck with your endeavor!

This is pretty good considering I have an i7 4790k quad core 4.4ghz (turbo) gpu 7950, 212 Evo cooler master, 2x4gb 1833, 750 watt psu. 1280x1080p monitor, I ran the unigine valley and my fps came out to be 47.9. But that's as soon as I turned my comp on and I ran it a second time and got high scores but don't remember them lol. My score was 2005 I was thinking about upgrading and buying a used 290x

+Joseph Drake (EpicDraw99) I think you spent too much on the cpu and not enough on the gpu. the 4790k is a cpu that only shows its full potential with a GTX 980ti. But with the graphics card you bought it's a huge bottle neck

Love your builds. did my own this past month some one tossed out a Lenovo M48 the system was striped of every thing but the cpu but I did a full rebuild of the system after watching your videos made me really want to fix it up and see what it could do. Rebuild specs Intel Q45/43 Motherboard Lenovo Branded CPU: Q9400 Ram 8GB DDR3 1333MHz 35.00 shipped HDD 250gb 10.00 local store Enermax Pro 82+ 625W PSU Free from work ASUS HD7770 60.00 Windows 7 Pro Free from work 105.00 all in Was fun to do a build like this gets great fps with no overclock on the cpu as this board is not made for it but still get around 60 - 80fps on High though Bf4 and other games at 1920x1080 keep up the great videos. I might do another build :D

Alot of 920s will run @4ghz,and i bet there would be little to no difference in performance too.But still worth buying the e5640 at that price, bargain.

You will need an AMD FX cpu for that motherboard, if you want to use the e5640 you will need an x58 motherboard, which can be pretty expensive online (I find they are much cheaper at used parts stores). Other than that be build looks good.
