Ah yes, the track that makes you think twice about using multilock anti-air missiles.

Man rather than seeing the walkthrough, you gotta hear the soundtrack while playing the game.. It's worth it!

Up until the mission this song belongs to (which is quite early in the conflict), the details and even existence of the Cascadian Rebellion and the war as a whole are being hidden from the general public via all sorts of methods, but most prolifically a massive communications facility that's being used to jam, scramble, encrypt, and/or redirect all forms of long-distance communication in the warzone. As far as the world at large is concerned, the Pacific Federation is in control, there's no strife or conflict outside of mercenary skirmishes...everything's just peachy! I feel "Clear Skies" alludes to the fact that this mission brings the truth of the situation clearly and directly into the public eye for the first time: you're tasked with destroying military transport aircraft and the rapid response forces sent to defend them (the "direct" interpretation of the title) within very close visual range of multiple passenger airliners (leading to the "secondary" interpretation of the title). Despite it banging hard on the fourth wall when you really think about it, the ambiance of the radio chatter of the mission is full of passengers asking what the heck is happening, why there's combat going on outside the window, and even air marshals directing passengers to hand over all of their communication devices for destruction. The scene is brutal and militaristic; a show of force for the people whom don't even know you're fighting for them, involving dropping planes potentially packed with soldiers out of the sky in flames. I believe that's where the driving percussion is leading the listener. It's worth noting that the song doesn't go for that big-orchestra "glorious" sound nor anything particularly complex as the task you're fulfilling isn't glorious nor complex either; the game does a wonderful job of balancing "you're the hero that effortlessly bulldozes through all the bad guys while your allies watch agape" with "in war, even the best heroes have to do inglorious and even dishonorable dirty work." Then there's that hint of string motif in the middle which I have to apologize for not recalling which nation it belongs to when I hear it outside of gameplay; you'll hear multiple motifs like this one multiple times spread out through the soundtrack representing the various nations and characters.

The string motif in the middle (assuming you are referring to the one at 2:38) , if I remember correctly, is supposed to be the motif for the game as a whole (the 'main theme', or 'motif of freedom' as Jose himself seemed to view it in his making of videos), IIRC that motif only ever plays so clearly in full, at least during the campaign, in this mission, sirens of defeat, and presidia. Which is a shame, since it's such a beautiful motif.

@@jtnachos16 Thats the leitmotif of the sky itself, according to Pavli, which is why its near-omnipresent in one form or another in most tracks. They all take place in the sky after all.

"...Violin and flying." Smooth orchestral strings, at least to me, remind me of laminar flow- the smooth continous flow of air around an aircraft. The same flow responsible for producing lift and allowing the plane to get airborne in the first place.

This is the Project Wingman "de facto" track. You heard it in the demo, and IIRC, this is the song that got the composer hired.

I continue to appreciate "Be In The Mirror" playing as your background music. Clear Skies has that epic military/mercenary feel that I love! Those drums are putting in work.

Dude, if you can find the time, when you're done, you should play the game rather than watch someone else play it. I discovered it only through the soundtrack videos too, the music made me have to buy it. But the game itself? With that same music throughout? It's such a wild ride.
