Honors to your mom. I achieved the endings too a couple of times, but it was every time a damn tough thing to get through. Preferably by not losing a single life cause to regain lost weapon updates was extremely hard at a certain stage into the game.

This was and is THE best sideways scrolling shooter ever...i'd love to be able to play this again! Every part of this game was polished perfection and you certainly had to keep your wits about you, 'enemies' coming at you from all directions. The music of Allister Brimble was the icing on the cake.

@mattx54992 жыл бұрын
What I like about this game is a great separation of sprites from the background which makes everything perfectly visible. I played many other Shmup's on various platforms and they had that design fail about them that you couldn't tell background stuff from the foreground and you ended up getting hit by a little shit thrown at you by the enemy, because it was hiding in the overcrowded background graphics. If you don't know what I'm talking about check out some shooters from arcades like Neo Geo etc. They have impressive stuff going on in the backgrounds, but it's annoying when enemies are swarming you with projectiles.

RetroDemoScene its a good Amiga shooter for sure. Still graphics like this was around 5 years earlier in the arcade so nothing outstanding for its time in my opinion (then I am also not a fan of those early - hey let’s throw is some ray traced stuff into the hand pixelated stuff - experiments, usually they ended up like a Frankenstein of art style

@@litjellyfish Arcades for sure banged out much nicer looking games in this genre early 90's, but a 1984/5 designed home computer chipset? i felt they really done justice with that hardware at the time. @@RetroDemoScene "Arcades for sure banged out much nicer looking games in this genre early 90's, but a 1984/5" Yea definitely. I think its because most of those 90s arcade shootemups (and "arcade original" games in general) ran on hardware that was way more powerful than our Atari ST's / Amiga 500's, or any of the contempo consoles back then. I remember games where I'd seen the arcade version first, then we got the console version, and it was often a major downgrade of the game, unless the home port came many years later. EG the 1st version of MK3 I saw was the SNES one, so when I saw it in an arcade, I was blown away, it was miles better in GFX & sound.

"What a fantastic time of my life - I was really lucky starting out with a computer like the Amiga as it really had it all, and more besides! During development a problem was found that crashed Project X on the volcano level occasionally. To test this, I had to play ALL the levels through with no cheating. Testing took about three weeks and I was pretty good at playing the game after that! The actual bug was never found; however, it was eventually 'fixed' using a debug function that flashes the Amiga's LED at the start of each level, which is why this happens if you ever wondered!" -- Andreas Tadic, co-designer and programmer "Project X was a pretty tough shoot 'em up, which is why Team 17 released the noticeably easier Special Edition. I guess they did overdo the difficulty a bit! This is one of the only games I'm aware of with TWO title tunes. Initially I was asked to create a modern rave dance track but Team 17 felt some players would prefer a more gentle piece as an alternative which we called the 'old timer' theme. I was able to use the research I put into the rave track for many years to create dance music for other games." -- Allister Brimble, musician

I had always liked the idea to have remade hybris and battle squadron amiga games to be made to pc with mouse control support with stunning visuals. It just they will never do it because they want to make crap unoptimized games that just don't work because they have such big ideas but always executed poorly and are so out of there depths they don't know what there doing. All they think about is greed and money not on fun and playability factor but where not back in that era anymore but it doesn't mean they cant still make them they just don't want to or they just remaster them very slightly with out doing upgrade higher modern textures and fix all the bugs again its doing them for a quick cash grab not for love of the classic game

Have to agree; while I have nostalgia for this game, it is repetitive and plays nowhere as well as some other shmups of the era and even earlier. But that seems to go for a lot of home computer shmups, a lot of effort was put to match the graphics and presentation of arcade games, not enough effort into studying what makes for fun gameplay.
