While I admit there was something comical about the idea of a zed walking all the way back to his "before home" - it touches on a terrifying idea that I think often gets overlooked in zombie media. Is there something left of that person, trapped inside? Imagine the hell that could be surrounding you every day you spend in PZ. It almost makes killing zeds seem like a moral obligation 😐Also, seeing PZ with so many people in it somehow makes PZ feel even more lonely than it already does lol
@jacksank98
@jacksank98 2 жыл бұрын
That idea is actually really relevant with the plot of the Dawn of the Dead(1978), also with other classic Romero movies. Good watch, would recommend, would also explain how it was portrayed but I wouldn't want to spoil it if you didn't watch it yet.

@@tommeakin1732 Origins of the zombies matter as well. Last of Us zombies for example are shown to know what they're being forced to do during the first stage of the infection, there's one scene where a runner is gagging while eating someone else. Romero put a nice twist on zombies trying to recall who they were. But really the cause matters, and most lores tend to drop the idea of locked in syndrome that could accompany it in favor of losing any complexity. Not a bad thing, but not always good. tl;dr: its not always over looked, but limited time constraints often makes it easier to just not deal with it unless its a key point to the plot.

I think there isnt any human conciousness after u turn into one of em, just empty minded if that was what u were talkin bout. but it would be interesting to see some infected have some memories of their past life and go back to the places they always go or do things a zombie wont normally do (like opening doors, using stuff like rocks or some tools to break windows/doors faster, etc)

Man... this was truly heartbreaking. I know I haven't commented in your most recent videos for a while, and I'm sorry for it! even so, I can tell that you based this on the "Dawn of the living dead", because if I remember correctly (and in case I'm not confusing it with another movie) the zombies in that movie were able to have memories of their previous life, and did things that they once did when they were humans. It's truly sad though, this poor man left home, saying "goodbye" to his wife and daughter one last time, not knowing he would never see them again as himself. Instead, what came home was a dead corpse that even so, EVEN SO still had enough of a soul trapped that longed for the reunion and company of his loved ones... How cruel and beautiful, I know why you said this is a fate worse than death; his wife and child are dead, resting in peace, but he's not as long as his body still is able to move... and never will. Keep up the godly work, Werlias!

Yeah man, i notice your absence in the comment section, i was starting to get worried haha, good to see you back here. I didn't based this story on that film, i just wanted to make a video about the perspective of an infected, how the memories of his last day as a human remained. I didn't specify it, but the memories returned many years after he got infected, i guess to represent how at the start they act purely out of instinct, then after all things slow down they have little glimpses of memories before they got infected. Thank you so much for the comment, cheers!

I read a book series that had a scene like this halfway through, was a bride that got zombified right before marrying. It went on to describe the sensation of being trapped behind inside your own body, seeing out but unable to control anything, how she was losing memories day-by-day, describing forgetting what her fiancee looked like, eventually what could best be described as her “soul” is lost for good. She either got killed by one of the characters, joins in the millions of others in a crowd, or [spoilers] “cured” by the chemical spray that causes zombies to continue decomposing at the end of the series. The series had some pretty cool concepts for the typical zombie apocalypse, such as the fact that zombies would naturally travel down slopes and never go up when not provoked, making places built on hills naturally safer. Or how the survivors used carpets ripped from homes to make scratch-proof armor. Or how the main survivor camp used an automated intercom system to keep zombies away from the fence.

I'm currently doing an RP series with my friends in Zomboid, and you have easily been my biggest inspiration in how I want to display my characters in the editing phase. The mood, pacing, and general craftsmanship in these videos is the best I've seen in the entire community by far. If I can get my stuff to be even half as impactful as yours, I would be happy.

This gave me a whole new perspective on the game. A sort of sadness permeates my gameplay now as I move about, scavenging supplies and seeing run down buildings and zombies ambling about, entering houses with what could be couples or families still inside.

Seeing so many people that aren't undead is kind of surreal, would make any survivor remember the good times.

Amazing video!! Long time pz fan and I love how faithful esque everything was, even using what was lost as the credits music (still unhappy they haven't added it back in for newer players to hear) alot of the shots taken made me go woah, as the final product looked immaculate. Most craziest one was the moving train scene, greenscreens and all. Looking forward to more videos, subbed

The thing that always makes me sad the most with your stories is we don't get to see what happens to each character next, like in Apart what happens to our buds after the credits roll. You do such amazing work in your story telling and I always come back looking for more.

Thanks! Oh i forgot to add the mod to the modlist, for those scenes i used the "Useful Mirror", wich lets you see your character with more detail using the mirror item.

Project Zomboid has the perfect atmosphere for a story like this, especially with it's entire premise of "the only way out is by dying"

If you look closely at 1:29, there's only 2 skeletons of the 3 mechanics that were there, meaning the only one that isn't there survived and is probably out there as a survivor just like the characters we play.

It doesn't have to be overly elaborate or even methodical to be a great story. Sometimes, a simple glimpse into a memory from a different time, from a different perspective is all that's needed. And yes, I appreciate the direction taken here that I wish were explored more in modern Zombie media.
