Good evening I realize this video is about 6 years old... I have owned 3 1998 ZX-7r “P” models, worked on them myself, and learned many lessons along the way. I believe the one we currently have will be the one kept for the long haul. It only has 5,000 miles on it and apparently never downed. Anyways the reason for this comment; we were out riding this summer and lost power while on a pull. We have now replaced the alternator/stator, cleaned and reconnected all grounds, replaced the CDI box, replaced the battery, tested the ignition system, removed the coils and taken them to a testing center (they’re fine), and a handful of other suggested tests from forum members and friends. I am handy, taken basic electrical classes, repaired many vehicles, and so on... I am at a place of needing assistance, maybe it’s something simple I just don’t see? Is there a way I can get the bike to you? Desperate for assistance, any help appreciated- located in CT.

I am a LOOONG way from CT. And the Border is now closed for Non -essential travel. Any time a bike simply stops working suddenly, I almost immediately go to the electrical system. Clearly you did as well, and it seems as though you have thoroughly checked the ignition system -- coils, CDI, plug wires, harness , main fuse, ignition trigger. If the bike still has electrical power, but wont run that narrows it down. If it has no electrical at all , it is something bigger (I have had faulty battery post screws MANY times) , maybe the main ground is failing or there is a short somewhere on the harness. If there is electrical power (the lights work) then the problem can also be a faulty kick stand switch (try bypassing it with a paperclip).

This happened to me on my 2000 zx7r I checked everything and what I found was from the ignition harness inside two wire on the end top and bottom had melted inside so power wasn't getting through I cut the wires and put spade terminals on them to by pass the plug and boom ..... Check the ignition plug

I red some where because of the way the vehicles ignition system is tied to spark delivery some how or some shit like the the wires get hot supposedly a way to buy pass this but I lost the site and I don't have wiring diagrams

Hey! If you could respond to this message I would appreciate it. I have a question about my zx7!

How did you get that front sprocket lock nut off so effortlessly? I have pounded the washer down and with all the strenght in my body and a breaker bar, I can't get it off. Been at it for two hours now...

Fortunately, although the bike saw some track time, it was also in the hands of an experienced owner and wrench, so the sprocket was most likely changed a few times and proper torque was applied to the nut. All too often people over-tighten nuts , or never remove them , and they sieze. The best solution is to use a torch to heat the nut, and then hit with an impact driver

@@kiki231000 Thanks for the reply. The previous owner of my ZXR was probably using bucketloads of locktite or something with numerous nuts and bolts. And I agree, people over tighten these for seemingly no reason sometimes. I tried a torch and a 1 meter breaker bar and many other methods until I simply gave up and ground the nut off. Now waiting for a new one, and the new sprockets and chain are already on 👍 (Cost me 13€ but sometimes it's worth the mental pain...)

My zx7rs sprocket nut is being a real bitch to undo, can you please tell me how you went about getting it undone. Cheers mate from Notts UK.

I didnt have a problem with mine. However, when i do, i typically use a torch to heat it, with an electric impact wrench to snap it off

thanks for the tips chris, I will give it a try. I always worry that I could damage something pulling on that nut so much.
