Hey this is a very helpful channel for us WJ owners, and I tune in every time you post a new WJ video. I've seen this same cooling issue crop up with my 2004 WJ Laredo 4.7V8, but rather than attempt to get the hydraulic fan working again, I'm in the process of copying the electric fan conversion that came with my 2004 WJ Overland 4.7V8 HO, whose power steering plumbing is entirely removed from the radiator. Since the WJ Overland works fine after that conversion to electric fan cooling, I figured the same idea ought to work with the Laredo. I'd be interested to hear from any other WJ V8 owners who have also gone the electric fan route, to find out whether they encountered any power steering problems due to overheating of the power steering fluid that no longer gest routed through the radiator assembly. I've not yet driven the Overland really hard as yet, so I'm not sure how well this DIY cooling system conversion will hold up over time.

The conversion sound like a great mod. keep me posted on how it works. Thanks for watching!

Hello dear, a question: Do you recommend a hydraulic or electric fan for a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee - 4.7
@ProjectDanH10 ай бұрын
Hey, I hated the hydro fan. It was a lot of effort to make it work correctly.. I would choose an E fan for every WJ. unfortunately Jeep decided that most WJs with 4.7 V8s and Tow packages should have a Hydrofan.

Teflon tape on flare fittings is not necessary. The leak will happen at the flare/cone fitting. Not the threads.

Passing along info I picked up from a guy at my local u pull. On the WJ transfer case, the fluid requires a friction modifier, kinda like what you put in the diffs, and if you don't add it when you change the fluid, it will burn up the transfer case. I think he said transfer case. Not sure anymore, I was pulling 5.9 parts for my ZJ at the time, and it was a hot July day.

So if you did a hydro fan delete, say with an electric fan or 2, it would throw a check engine light, because of the sensor? Seems like a better option if only...
@martinbuilt3 жыл бұрын
use a 10-ohm wire-wound across the two wires that way the ECM will not throw a code.

Martin, I've read that if you put in an E-fan you can save your solenoid and keep it plugged to prevent any codes. Is this true?

I have a million dollar question. The high pressure hose going from the pump to fan uses a quick connect fitting at the fan as a stock part. Does the edelman part work correctly? The mopar one looks like a 37 degree flare with an o-ring at the nose but the aftermarket ones (edelman included) use what seems to be an inverted flare (same connection at the ps pump). Does anyone have any leaks using the aftermarket one?
