Okay, I have to pause and comment cause I keep getting hit in the honey nut feelios every time I watch you guys now. You have always been a "mommy" and a "daddy," but every time Cullen says "Mommy did this" or Katie says "Well, Daddy did so and so" it just makes me tear up because she is finally here!! You two are the most deserving and kind people I have ever had the chance to get to know (thanks KZbin) and seeing your beautiful baby girl being held and loved and adored just really warms my heart. I remember when my little Matthew was a few hours old and had his first poo, I freaked out so much I buzzed the nurse to come in and help because I had no idea a tiny 7lb 8oz baby could do such a thing!!! He is now 5 and a half months old and the time really did fly, enjoy every single day with your newborn and every single nappy change because they definitely do not stay that young for long! your baby girl is beautiful, congratulations :)

My gosh, Gaines is just so precious and (to me) she is the spitting image of Cullen. She is one of the most alert newborns that I have ever seen. I know y'all are having the best time and enjoy every second.

My son was 3 weeks early and was alert and active like Macey. And was a good sleeper and stay awake for hours at a time, just looking around, even tho they can't focus at that age. Macey reminds me so much of him. You'll probably find she's a content little thing, that can amuse herself constantly too. She's absolutely adorable. Congrats!

Hey, recent research shows that you can submerge the umbilical cord in the bath. If you're still unsure about doing that though, you can run an extra wash cloth or two under warm water and lay it on her exposed body parts so she doesn't get cold while you wash other areas.

i love Cullens thoughts, a part of my course is all about babies and theories behind development, its beneficial in different ways to be a premie, premies tend to be more visual children and tend to be heavily creative :) thats obviously just an average and every child is different of course!

When you are able to fully submerge her in the bath, try using a receiving blanket under and around her, it will be wet and warm with the water which will keep her a little warmer than out in the open air. You just uncover the area you are washing. I did that with my girls when they were tiny because they cried so much and loudly. It helps.

Lordy, I so enjoy her! Just a few days ago, at 3 years old she was having lunch and told us how she invited Ariel to her birthday party and she came, of course. And MG told us how she was invited by the coach to do gymnastics with the older girls. (She is really good at gymnastics!) Gaines said "Now I get to talk to the big girls", with excitement. She knows about pollination and already does her own gardening. Her little brother, Brooks, ate his pea seeds, lol.

When you bathe her, you can try putting a warm rag on her while she is getting her bath and you're washing her. They cry because they are cold or because it's so foreign and they don't understand. She's so precious!!! Agh!

You guys are amazing parents and she is just so cute be careful though because she is smaller so when you have her on the playmat make sure she has socks on and all of that so that she stays nice and warm or even maybe swaddled in a blanket I know, I know I will get a ton of hate with people saying I'm sure they know that but they are first time parents and nobody knows everything so we were all learning everyday.

It is amazing to think she was that alert in the womb. Just think of her facial expressions as Cullen was hollering at her though the belly. lol. I have 3 kids all born over 40 wks and I think she is extremely developed for a 37 wker. She will be a smarty pants for sure! : )

Baby tops and onesies have the overlapping collar so you can pull them DOWN instead of over their heads. Keeps them from getting all upset, and comes in real handy with poop blowouts, so you're not pulling a dirty onesie over their head.

My daughter had the same birth stats as Gaines and she easily wore premie clothes for 2-3 weeks! Definitely worth the money to pick up a few sleepers and onesies! Carters had a great selection and lots on the clearance rack!

What a cute family. Hey! I'm dying to hear the story about Labor Day. How long were you in labor before you left for the hospital? If you ere already at 10cm when they checked you that means you were in the transition phase while you were driving and walking to the hospital and that's the worst part of labor! You are one tough mama Katie! I'm so glad you got there on time and everything turned out fine. Cullen, I'm sure you've already been told that by the time Gaines goes to high school you will have experienced every kind of poo, pee and throw up there is. It's part of being a parent. Gaines is so precious! My daughter was 3 weeks early. In the hospital she flipped herself over while they were giving her a bath! Nurses couldn't get over it! She walked at 9 mos. And she was potty trained at 20 mos! Maybe, babies born early progress at a fast rate. All babies are so different! My son was slower doing all of the same things and he was born 2 days before his due date.
