🔷 ABOUT US 🔷
We're a DIY family building our "forever homestead" from 15 acres of raw undeveloped land in Tennessee. All of our content is family friendly and safe for everyone to enjoy.
In today's video we check polarity of our outlets and perform an electrical inspection, finish drywall, and build a water heater closet too! This is a great catch up video to show what various projects we're always working on even when other larger projects and videos are taking place. Let's go!

I know the trench for your electrical was a bear, but in the case of bad storms with your wires being underground you don’t have to worry about the wires on poles being beat up. Also, it keeps your beautiful view unencumbered. 🌳

We bought our 1997 Belmont Mobile Home and moved in on our youngest daughter 10th birthday June 1996; we chose the floor plan, wall type, color and floor type which back then hardwood flooring was not an option. It is a 3 bedroom 2 full bath. I had our daughters (2 girls) full bath placed at the end of the hallway. That was 26 years ago. 2016 we gave it to our oldest daughter and we moved in my folks home after they passed. A lot has been done to it and still more. Hubby and I will be moving back in it soon. I love that mobile home. And yes our ceilings in the middle were 10 feet in height with the wall-ceiling was 8 ft. Trailer 16x80. One of the change we made was a tankless hot water heater and not once did our lights flickered or had any issues. Does my heart good to see y’all bring new life to your mobile home.

My father taught me that if you want a reliable appliance, buy a Sears Kenmore. We've been in this house for almost 19 years and bought a new Kenmore stove and refrigerator when we moved in. Still going strong!! Also we bought a new washer, dryer and upright freezer (all Kenmore) a year before we moved here. All are still going strong. This is only the 2nd set of washer/dryer appliances we've bought since 1979. The other ones, the washer finally died but we gave our dryer to a friend of my brother and last I heard it was STILL working!! They too were Kenmore's and we'd had them since Feb. of 1979. The dishwasher that is in the house when we bought it is still working but when it dies, it will be replaced with a Kenmore as well. Also buy Craftsman tools...they never let you down either.

Angela, you're doing a fantastic job. Sam was quite right in praising the work you've done. Angela removing the cupboard: 'we're going to be gentle with this'... takes a big prybar to it. I like the style. 🤣 I love the den the boys made behind the trash bags. Imagination is so important at that age. 😌 I'm always interested in seeing the difference between how things like electricity and water heating are set up compared to here in the UK. So a video like this is a lot of fun for me to watch. ❤ Stay safe, everyone. 🙏

You guys are such an inspiration to me. I have a 1986 Marshfield home 16x70. The particle board flooring is crumbling in places so today I took a bedroom floor and sawed between the floor joists like you showed and bent them and they popped right out. Thank you so much for the DIY ideas! I was seriously dreading it, but after getting going it went so well. Now I'm on my way. I have OSB and insulation waiting in the shed. (I have redone many stick built homes but mobile homes are new to me.). I always look forward to your new episodes. Be well and thank you. Brad in Viroqua, WI.

I had a little chuckle at your statement about working on your 80’s mobile home. Some people see it as a waste of time and money, but I disagree. I did the same..my mobile home is a 1954 Stewart model. And I gutted most of it, furring out walls so I could reinsulate, new electrical, new plumbing, putting in hardwood floors, shiplap walls, and oak cabinetry. It looks and functions amazing! I had lots of naysayers giving me grief over my putting in money into such an old home. But it worked, and well. And it’s cozy and comfortable, and it’s what I had.

Great shot of hooking up the outlet at about 15:00. That's cool that you were able to use scraps to build the water heater closet. How about bi-fold doors for that closet? You can take them off real easy if you need to get the heater out in the future.

I'm watching with my individual project diy mind and feeling that the assorted projects amount to a pretty penny - On the other hand, you would have had to trench in power from the grid despite what structure you chose if you wanted to be on grid; equivalent with the water. Site set up would have likely been much the same if you brought in a newer, or brand new modular/ trailer. Having a stick home built, or building it yourself-ish would have been similar enough in terms of grading and foundation to be at least as expensive. While doing what seems like somewhat extensive interior remodeling, going at it the way you're doing it is somewhere between a draw and cheaper than the cost difference between a newer modular and using the home you've already done extensive structural and aesthetic upgrades on. Yes, your family is building a sleeper of a forever home capable of lasting for forever!

On your water heater situation, we ended up putting small point-of-use (tank style) water heaters in our home. We have a 8 gallon one in our master bathroom, another 8 gallon one in the "kids" bathroom, and a 2.5 gallon one under our kitchen sink. We never have to wait more than 1 or 2 seconds for hot water to come out of any faucet in our house. And we have lowered our water usage. We still have our 40 gallon 240 volt water heater in our utility/laundry room, but I blocked all hot water lines coming from it to the rest of the house. So, basically, all it is used for is the washing machine.

When it pushed in the box the wires can loosen up a little . Push the plug, switch, GFCI.... into the box then pull it out enough to check, retighten.

I have been alone in my 1995 16x76 Dutch since 2016. The 2nd time I went to shower in the master bathroom the hot water faucet would not turn on. So it's not been used since. In 2020 when the tp shortage started it took 3 months to be able to buy any. I had been without a vehicle from Dec 2018 to June 2020. As soon as I got my car and it was back in stock every time I went to Walmart I bought a HUGE package. I had it piledto the top of the shower with 3 9 roll packs on the floor of it. My grandmonkey Maddy came to live with me for the summer this year. She went in there and said, Nana, do you have enough toilet paper? I told her what happened and with only being able to use flushable wipes for 3 months, I WILL NEVER RUN OUT OF TOLIET PAPER AGAIN!!!
