Weirdly enough I was actually thinking of this episode yesterday. 😅 an associate and I were having a conversation about how " have you ever noticed that when someone calls something a delicacy it's usually something that no one in their right mind would eat?" Fun fact: trading and selling ambergris is illegal in several countries (including the US), so unless the laws haven’t change in 1000 years, the aquarium can get into serious trouble.

It’s illegal in several countries because sperm whales are an endangered species. While it is entirely ethical to harvest and collect ambergris, as it’s a waste product, it’s illegal in some countries to reduce potential harm to the whale population. 🐳

And just as degenerate ivory poachers will kill elephants for their tusks, there is a concern that some people will result to immoral, unethical, and harmful acts against whales in order to procure their ambergris. Ergo, it's illegal here, thankfully.

Man, I remember when Amazon just sold books! They sold more than that at this point in time (Not 3004 or whatever, but when this episode was made lol) but it probably still seemed quite risky. In 2004, Amazon shares were about $2.20, now they're about $180!

When did Amazon "take off" as it were? Exactly when did it become that everything is connected to Amazon?

​@@Sharkman25 Well, they were doing really well before this, but in 2005 is when they launched their Amazon Prime subscription for $79 a year for the 2 day shipping. And before that, ordering anything online was always pretty expensive shipping and it'd take 5-7 days to get there. So that's when a lot more people started choosing Amazon over other places. And in 2007 they started their own Amazon brands for electronics, textiles, etc, making those things quite a bit cheaper than "name brand" stuff so that helped also. I'd say around 2010 is when a lot of people, including me, started shopping for quite a few things almost exclusively on Amazon, especially for Christmas and stuff.

Interesting fact. Fox actually hated Futurama. They kept forcing them to the worst time slots. In s1 they gave them a really bad mid week time slot which tanked ratings. Then in the second season when they got good ratings in the bad time slot eventually they put it back in the good one. Then in 4 episodes moved it to the worst time slot. Which was right after sports. Which meant if they ran over futurama was cancelled and delayed for the week. This caused many episodes to be moved out of order and make the continuity worst. It also caused s4 the final season made to turn into a fifth season due to delays. Fox fought to kill futurama during it's entire run. It stayed in that time slot til it's last episode. Also the literal worst rated episode of Futurama was when they gave into all of foxes demands for an episode. It's the one where fry and bender move in together. They were complaining that they were expecting the simpsons in space (same writer).

And for a while it was scheduled for 7:30pm, before the Simpsons on Sunday. It almost always got preempted by postgame coverage because of NFL football running late.
