Back in the day in the 80s and early 90s we all used to go to my aunt and uncles place on Christmas Eve. They had a fixed up basement with a pool table a zaxxon arcade machine and juke box. All the kids would chill down there and play and listen to mostly Kokomo on the juke box. I miss that sometimes😢

Graphic mods. I have RBR and the vanilla game looks nowhere like that. That being said, even vanilla RBR has aged well. It looks noticeably better than Colin McRae Rally 2004/2005 which came out around the same time. But yea he's playing a modded RBR to look like that.

Awesome! I have to say I'm quite surprised (in a good way) how good this track looks. Especially the color palette. We have on one side mostly oversaturated look of games like Forza for example and on other side almost black/white look of some tracks from modding community. This however is exactly the colors I would expect with overcast settings. I really like it! Also the driving was perfect :)

@ProjectSimRacing8 ай бұрын
Thanks, @eastender74! Rallying, even in a sim, definitely demands quick reflexes. But remember, it's all about practice and gradually building up your skills. The more you play, the better your reflexes and anticipation become. As for the looks, yeah it's crazy this game is 20 years old 🤯🙂🙌
@Caldwing8 ай бұрын
Part of it is about getting so comfortable with the car and the calls that you don't need your reflexes to be as fast. You hear what the co-driver says and a model of the road ahead of you comes into your head. You can react to it before you see it. If you only take turns as you see them you will never succeed at rally, because you often must account for a turn long before you can see it. If you hear 4 right into 2 left, you are really preparing for the 2 left even before you enter the 4.
@mikemhz12 күн бұрын
These RBR tracks on cambered tarmac are impossible to drive fast on with a keyboard or controller. At least last time I played, an overcorrection would send you into a spin. I have been wishing for a direct drive wheel ever since and next month I'm getting one! Although I just heard Corsair bought out Fanatec. I wonder what will come of that 😬
@ProjectSimRacing12 күн бұрын
Yeah, no way you’re handling those turns at high speeds without a wheel! 😆 As for Corsair buying Fanatec, from what I understand, it could actually be a positive move. @ProjectSimRacing8 ай бұрын
Thanks for the compliment! The difference you're feeling is likely due to the rear wheels helping with steering in RWD cars, especially when accelerating, as the rear tends to step out. This isn't the case with FWD and AWD cars, where the steering feels different.

¡Gracias!

@@ProjectSimRacing Did you calibrate your screens?
Thank you! I've been looking in to getting one of those👍🙂

I don't need to try this out because I would never be able to finish 😂

Trust me, with a bit of practice, not only will you finish, but you'll also achieve some great times! Consistent practice makes all the difference in sim racing😊

Always was curious how this BRB compares to modern titles? IS there some unique experience in it? Track looks very realistic, expecially road itself.
@ProjectSimRacing9 ай бұрын
There's still no other rally game that matches RBR in terms of physics. This is largely thanks to the dedicated community that kept the game alive by extensively modding it😊

@@ProjectSimRacing, ok, sounds like one more title to install... Only during holidays managed to get FFB in AC suitable for my taste. Now this one, and I still do not have EA WRC, lol. We do not have that much time to master all these titles.

@konstantinbatashan9123, I totally understand that feeling! 😄 Balancing time between different sim racing titles can indeed be a challenge, but each game offers its own unique experience. Enjoy the exploration and happy racing during the holidays!

Incredible how modders can make better games than developers. 😮

Please, give credit where its due! The original developers did a stellar job! I played the original on PC, back when it came out in 2004, with a simple force feedback wheel and 2 pedals. (I still have the game DVD and case) It was amazing back then! It was the first of its kind in race games where you had to be fully concentrated, fully be paying attention and be carefull at all times. This was as far removed from arcade racing as could be. One of the by-lines of the game was _"You have to go slow in order to go fast"_ Back in the days they had professional WRC drivers test the game. One of the amazing achievements was that the in-game cars accurately responded to all the car set-up details just like the WRC cars would do in real life. And that included just about everything that could be set up on a rally car: camber, caster, toe-in (or out), ride height, spring rates, damper settings (bump, rebound and fast rebound, so 3-way ajustable), active diff settings for all 3 differentials, anti-roll bars front and rear and gearbox ratios. So the orginal developers made an absolute killer of a game, one that was quite misunderstood at first, but kept a following for almost 20 years now. The developer, Warthog, got acquired by the company that tried (and failed) to market a hand-held, the Gizmondo, and after that bankruptcy the rights to that game never got in the hands of a developer that wanted to make RBR2. They released patch 1.01 and 1.02 before Gizmondo tanked, but after that the game was pretty much abandoned. (The fact that Richard Burns himself had passed away in 2005, he died from a brain tumor, might have contributed to this as well. Why carry on a franchise of a dead WRC champion?)

Looks unreal! Insane skill by this driver too!!! Unbelievable that it’s still unbeaten. I remember talking to my old classmate Eero when he was developing the physics engine for RBR back in the day. He was a pretty switched on engineer (and avid rally and racing fan, with Finnish heritage). Once he was in charge of building the physics engine of the game, he simply built everything around real physics. With proper forces acting through a full 3D model setup of the car, with proper inertia from all the rotating axles, wheels, engine, along with finely tuned friction coefficients, real weight of all the interacting components, along with the exact right suspension geometry etc. I remember him going into great detail with everything in order to get the proper feel. Seems like he built a pretty solid platform that’s lasted the test of time. Hats off to Eero and all the rest of the developers and all the modders over the years!

@bastumannen0 Wow, @bastumannen0, that's an incredible story! It's amazing to hear about the dedication and expertise Eero and the rest of the team put into creating RBR's physics engine. Their work certainly laid a solid foundation that has stood the test of time, and the modding community has built upon it brilliantly. It's a testament to their skill and passion for rally racing. Hats off indeed to Eero, the original developers, and all the talented modders who've contributed over the years. Thanks for sharing this insight - it adds even more appreciation for what we're experiencing in the game! 🙌
