Good question! There is a theory called endosymbiont theory that suggest that plant cell with chloroplast and animal cell with mitochondria are formed by endosymbiotic association with a large primitive cell. That is the reason mitochondria and chloroplast ribosomes as 70S just like prokaryotes and even DNA is ds and circular just like prokaryotes.
