I've always been enamoured of any composition by Prokovfiev. The Waltz from this dance-work is wonderfully demented, with it's angular melodic line its giant leaps and its sheer passion. The wild key changes preceding the "Midnight" section perfectly conveys frenzied, frantic bustle. This section reminds me of the rapidly changing keys in the final minutes of Wagner's "Tristan and Usolde". Both composers respectively very well understood not only composition, but colorful orchestration, also. Thank you for allowing visitors to follow the score above. Score reading is my secret indulgence.
