nice video as always, have something to say sometimes the form is drawn correctly and the wrong shading destroy the form especially when the core shadow is not flowing correctly , what i'm really looking forward to clarify the mystery of the shading statement on tracing the core shadow correctly especially when it is not clearly visible on the form and how the core shadow flow and connects through out various forms and where it breaks and when the core shadow edge is lost and diapers with clear examples , is really disappointing for me as a student when i understand anatomy and perspective and i can't express that knowledge due a leak of one important aspect like shading,

I wanna share a little tip that has helped me when working with references: make it black and white. If you only need to see the shapes and shadows it is easier to see and copy those when the colour is not distracting from the shading.

Mind blown! Your critique about the curve being roughly the same on the front and back of the finger helped me immensely. It was even better to see how you formed the fat padding after getting that initial form/shape. This has helped me with both my drawing and my 3D sculpting in Blender! Thank you!

Cho Lin In psychology there is such thing as short term memory or long term memory. Thomas Frank did a video mentioning recall versus recognition. For artists memorizing something you want to draw. You need to practice and re draw your mistakes in order to get the most out of your practice for drawing hands.

No one should be able to remember everything from just 1 go in their entire life, therefore watch this again if you feel uncertain when drawing hands! Learning is a process that takes time to master and you shouldn't feel discouraged if you don't see improvements in a short period of time.

Nice channel with great overview over anatomy drawing. But the correction on the pinky finger on the first draw counters the nature of anatomy, the advice looks almost anime type, the finger will never naturaly bend like that, only if in pressure. The original was actualy more ocurate even if not completly correct.

I think you misunderstood the original orientation of the hand model in 4:43. In yours the hand is fully extended with a straight wrist whereas the original has the hand slightly cupped with wrist also slightly extended out.

I am new to the world of art, a complete amateur. So a question kind off strike my mind. The hands drawn here are being corrected and adjusted for minute details so how important is it to go into details if I want to do concept art and characters. Do I have to go in depth into anatomy, or fundamentals are enough. Can someone guide me here or send any link to articles dealing with this.

So sorry mr Porko, but 4:30 ring finger on your picture looks completely broken, even for my armature's point on view. It's proximal phalanx tries to take a different angle BUT it's 2nd and 3rd phalanges seems to be disagree. And they trying to keep same angle with the rest of fingers that makes whole finger to look broken. You can draw a circular cuts where phalanges connects to see that clearer.
@pedramtajeddini5100 Жыл бұрын
You're actually right. I have skinny fingers and i couldn't make my hands look like that from any angle using my phone's camera. That's why i think it's better to look at hand while drawing to make it look more realistic

Your swoops are too much. Fingers don't swoop that much unless you force them to. It's not natural. Everything else is pretty accurate, however. If your saying it swoops because of the padding on each joint of the finger, then your not looking close enough and examining it. Fingers swoop at the very end of the tips. After the swoop it does the sausage for a moment before going straight or before going to the knuckle.
@maxfortin35635 жыл бұрын
I'm sorry but the first finger, even tho you have the "gesture" there's no way that's a normal position for a pinky in the position the hand is. That just looks wrong if you put it back on the hand ... Edit : Wrote that before seeing all the comments. Yup, I'm not the only one...)

hmm!...I'm really glad! Your videos have been very helpful to me sofar, since I can't afford to take a course. BUT sth. is wrong this time. Your drawing of the 2nd Improved-Hand is confusing and even IRRITATING me, ... somehow. - While I'm totally with you on all the Critiques, and on your 1st improvements, I'm quite unhappy with the entire improvement-drawing of the 2nd hand (04:28). I find the OVERLAPS on the pinkie weird looking. And on the ringfinger this sharp (lower)bend, it looks like a 'kink' (or a broken finger), and on the side of fingertip-segment, it looks like a ebone sticking out. To me this entire drawing seems wrong ... , not least because of the almost pointed fingers. Actually, the weirdlooking shadows, together with the large creases below the fingers 3, 4, 5, they give an impression as if this improved hand (05:57) is stuck in a kitchen-rubber-glove. ...

You lost me when you started "designing" (a.k.a. changing) the features on an actual photograph because, apparently, reality was not "interesting" enough for you. Why bother using photo reference then if you're just going to draw whatever you want anyway? And why should anyone listen to your anatomy advice when you're willing to deform real fingers to make them look cooler?
@aliliz72043 жыл бұрын
Because that's important in art. To not follow it to seriously you can stylized and make a drawing much better by bending reality, as long as it still looks around anatomically correct. If you stick to close to realistic proportions. You will have stiff drawings and no originality or style.
