"Confiscate property of emigrants and rebels" is a reference to the French revolution, when early on rich nobles left the country to join forces with counter revolutionaries outside the country.

@@mikewilliams6025 how can a poor family have the private property over the means of production? How can a person be this much illiterate as you?

it is 3:58 am and for the past 6 days, my sociology class has been making me lose my marbles by having this as a required reading. you are literally the only person that has this whole thing understandable. thank you for helping me get my marbles back. sincerely, a very grateful sociology student.

You didn't explain the historical context and meaning of any of those things. To someone that's not educated with the topic, it's gonna sound horrific. For example, marxism doesn't propose the abolition of religion, far from it, but the abolition of organized institutionalized religion. Actually, all socialist nation offered amazing protections for freedom of religion.

A great introduction to the Manifesto. The only bit that I didn't think was well explained was in Chapter 2: "When, therefore, capital is converted into common property, into the property of all members of society, personal property is not thereby transformed into social property. It is only the social character of the property that is changed. It loses its class character." I've got no idea what this means.

Okay Ive only gotten into Marxism recently but Ill give explaining it a shot! If anyone has a better explaination/correction, Im open to hear it! Basically what Marx and Engels are saying there is that once capital (things and people’s labour that produce commodities) becomes owned by everyone, personal property (personal things that you own) for example, a pen, or a piece of clothing will not be associated to any one class e.g. the clothing that I own wouldnt be seen as “Bourgeois” or “Working class”, instead it will just be a piece of clothing. They were trying to show how capital, and private ownership generated the idea that personal property has class character
