THANK YOU for posting this. This video saved me from a WORLD of frustration. I bought a USB to TTL adapter on amazon recently, and it gave me the, "THIS IS NOT A PROLIFIC 2303" error, and installing the ancient driver immediately fixed it. The fact that you can buy things on amazon that are discontinued, dysfunctional trash the second they came off the production line blows my damn mind.

I had purchased a USB to 9-pin and 25-pin adapter about 5 years ago, and it worked great every time I used it. Tonight I ended up getting it back out and plugged it into my PC just to have the EXACT same issue you note here. Found your video, installed that driver and PRESTO it worked!!! Dude, nice find. Was trivial to get things going once I found this vid. Funny, I won't actually be using this AOL dialup modem with this Win10 system (uses the same chipset, obviously) but the fact I was able to test it near my phone line is a treat. This means I should be able to safely deploy it soon. Heck yeah, all this effort to get a BBS accessible via dialup! lol

hm... old drivers work only until you reboot PC, after that newest drivers are installed automatically and same message appears again, so i guess only solution is to replace driver each time...

The problem is that I load it once every few months and I become perplexed with such errors whether I should update the driver again and how, the automatic update does not work. whatsoever -it is an obsolete board.

Ive been doing this since they dropped the chipset in 2012 but have run into another problem: Whenever Windows updates it uninstalls the newer driver. Have any of you experienced this problem, if so, were you able to fix it?

Its because your chip is a counterfeit one and prolific updated their drivers to detect any devices with the counterfeit chip and disable the device.
