ProMat 2023 drew more than 1,000 exhibitors and over 50,000 attendees. We were thrilled to be among the exhibitors with a fully autonomous demonstration by the newest version of our robot, Digit. The week also included a presentation on human-centric robotics by our CTO, Jonathan Hurst and we closed it all out by winning the MHI Innovation Award for best new product. What a week!

@@z-beeblebrox introduction of autonomous robots will initially displace some jobs, it will also create new industries and job opportunities in fields related to the development and maintenance of these robots. Additionally, the increased efficiency and productivity resulting from the use of autonomous robots could lead to lower costs for goods and services, which could stimulate consumer spending and create new job opportunities in other sectors. So, it is not necessarily the case that the economy will be ruined without universal basic income. During the industrial revolution, many jobs were lost as machines took over tasks that were previously done by human labor. However, new industries and jobs were created to replace the ones that were lost, and the overall standard of living improved as a result of increased productivity and efficiency. It's possible that the same thing could happen with the widespread adoption of autonomous robots, as long as there is a focus on retraining and supporting workers who may be displaced by automation.

@@WoolandFlax This is not the same. The original introduction of robotics in the 60s-70s resulted in minimal job loss not because the workers replaced found better work maintaining the robotics, but because the robotics in question literally had minimal impact on how many workers were needed in a factory. If you're only losing a minority of workers, it's no different than a financially induced layoff - barely a blip on the radar of unemployment. Those unemployed labor workers couldn't magically gain engineering degrees and come back to work, they went searching for unskilled labor elsewhere. And the fact was, very very FEW unskilled labor markets were impacted by the original robotics boom - which should be obvious now by just looking at the sheer quantity of people Amazon employs at their factories. The vast majority of those people have neither the means nor capital to shift from unskilled to skilled labor. Certainly not at a moment's notice. Robots like Digit have the potential to FULLY replace all unskilled staff in a factory. With the right software, they have the potential to largely replace all the skilled staff and supervisors in a factory too. At scale, these kinds of fully autonomous, labor-generalized robots pose an existential threat to the labor market, and if we don't recognize that and do SOMETHING, there will NOT be any safety valves to prevent the slow cascade of mass lay offs from creating an unemployment crisis of a size never seen before in human history.

Lol. As history has shown us, machines never get faster. Computers are still the size of buildings and need their own power station. Cars are still hand cranked and have a top speed of 35mph. The internet is just for academics to email jokes to each other and websites are for the nerds. How does it feel to be completely wrong about everything? Do other people mock you? Constantly? Do you even know what IQ stands for?

@Benson Oh I'm fine. I'm happy. I live a full and happy life. I just think you are very stupid. Sorry if pointing that out upset you. I guess you can decide to blaim me for pointing it out. Maybe you need to try education? Anyway, I feel your comment says more about how sad you are inside, than about me. I do feel high and mighty, so thank you for that complement. I like the way you try to "rise above" it .... yet here you are, lowering yourself into the trolling filth that is the comment section of youtube. Congrats. Please, keep insulting me. I quite enjoy your tiny fury.
