I would love to see a video about how you typically time these leading up to a release. I'm especially curious, because another PR firm we worked with recommended we keep the audio of a track out of the public until it officially "drops" on the release or video premiere date. Does this method interfere at all with exclusive premieres, or are those relics of the past? Either way, I'd love to see a video about the high level arc of promoting a new track or album from start to finish, and how you suggest going about planning out the release strategy, how social media ads are incorporated into this, how you typically time it, and perhaps a rough division of what you would advise we as independent artists focus on percentage wise both in terms of ads and where you're directing traffic--FB vs IG vs KZbin Ads directing to Spotify Streams, KZbin plays, etc. (Sorry I know that's a lot, lol!)

You guys are literally saints. THANK YOU!!! I set up a 3-part funnel campaign yesterday following along to this video. I have one question, really hoping I didn't do anything wrong.... Is there typically a lag in the second two video ads showing results? (the "hook" and "request" ads). My Awareness video is live and is actually doing very well! However, the other two also show as "Active" on FB Ads Manager, with the little green dot, and yet all the metrics columns have dashes through them (no results). Wondering why this would be? I know for a fact that a lot of people have watched past the 50% mark on the Awareness video so the Hook video should be seeing some results, at the very least some impressions, but it is literally just "-" through all the boxes for both Hook and Request videos. What is going on?
@Burstimo5 жыл бұрын
It can take a few days to show you the results if it hasn't had a chance to push it out to a large enough audience yet. We sometimes wait a few days to run the retarget just to give the ad a chance to reach a wide audience

I would definitely watch more videos like this about running ads on FB or IG and technical details! a couple of questions: 1. What the lowest budget would you recommend for promoting every single ad? 2. Can I run an ad anonymously if I don't want people to see that a certain ad was promoted on an artist page? and just tag the real page in the caption?
@Burstimo5 жыл бұрын
Hey, the lowest budget would be $10 with $2 of retargeting. You're not going to get too much for that money though so be very precise with your audience. You can run ads which don't go on to your feed so your existing audience don't see them. You could even exclude the custom audience of those who have previously engaged with your content within the awareness campaign.

HALLELUJAH!!!!! I'd just posted this to another video, begging them to really drill down to the detail... And - after just the first few mins of this, I think I've FINALLY found a video that does what it says on the tin!! This was my message: Hey Guys - this WOULD be gold-dust as a video, because many of us out there find MAKING music is both our first love and our most 'natural' love. SELLING our music, however, can be utterly soul-destroying - at least that's been my experience. Plugging away trying to get someone to just pay attention long enough for you to persuade them to click on the link and actually LISTEN to your music, is a HELL of a lot harder than people might think. And it's easy to allow people's natural distraction to start eating away at your confidence, as it feels like they're ignoring you. I'd love you guys to do ANOTHER one of these, and really go into some of the technical details, as this is a cruel industry, and if you havent got your weaponry right, it can crush your creativity. And by technical, I'll give you an example: I released a song last year, 'In Memoriam" and I billed it as "The George Michael Tribute Song." Here are the links: “In Memoriam” Apple / iTunes: music.apple.com/gb/album/in-memoriam-single/1496975711?app=music&ign-mpt=uo%3D4 Spotify presave.to/pCLBA00DB1 Now, because I wrote it "from George's perspective," something noone else has dared to do, my track started to pick up interest even before it was released. But I didnt have my Social Media and Website ready for the kind of attention it got. And the consequence is that now I have 5,000 "Friends" on Facebook I've never met before! I'm what I would consider a totally normal guy, in terms of Social Media. I had 500 - 600 Friends on FB, but these were people I actually KNEW! I'd gone to school with them, I'd gone out with them, whatever... And I remember the weekend "In Memoriam" started to go slightly viral... Suddenly I was faced with 200-300 New Friend Requests every single day. Apparently, someone somewhere had put a link to my song (at the time it was on Sound Cloud, as I hadn't entirely decided yet to release it - to dare to write a song that was "from George's perspective" you need to be damn sure that the music is good enough, and typical musician that I am, I was full of self doubt!) The whole thing snowballed, and yes, the track is now out, it was released in Feb this year (2020). Did it scream to the top of the charts? No! But it's selling steadily, and I'm still comfortable that the music I wrote IS good enough to serve the lyrics I wanted to sing. But now, I have 5,000 "Friends" on Facebook, none of whom I've ever met, some of whom are a little weird (I've been called up at 3am by a woman in Ghana, begging me to marry her, that kind of thing), and I do occasionally have to ask politely on my timeline that people not call me via Messenger, and especially not at 3am! The fact is - these lovely poeple - lovely because most (not all - some just seemed to follow the crowd) most - had heard the song and it was the song that had led them to me. But it's only very recently that someone explained to me - these are fans, NOT friends. They shouldn't be on my Friends List, or my personal Facebook Profile. They should be LIKING my Artists' Page. Now, I have an Artists' Page on Facebook, I'm "Classicalbanksy". And that page should be set up in such a way that it feeds straight through to my Apple Music and Spotify Pages. And I happen to believe that one of the reasons "In Memoriam" didn't manage to chart, was because I don't have these set up right, or in some cases at all. I have to admit, I find facebook instructions vague at best, and the fact they seem to do everything possible to prevent you from actually asking for their help irritates the f...k out of me. Google is the same, and after trying to wade through all the admin - stats, sales campaigns, regions, and on and on... Stuff that is about as far away from the beautiful immediacy of Music as you can possibly get... My heart and head start to ache. But these things are a necessary evil, I realise. I have a gorgeous little track out there, that I laboured over lovingly from the day George died, and it's fighting for its life, because the "bizz" side of all this is tangled and uninviting, and I think supposed to be reserved for those who cannot, or who'd rather not, write. For the sake of my song, for the sake of all my songs, both now and in the future, I have to go through this. So please - do another of these, but get right to the heart of the issue. Coz you look and sound like you know what you're doing, and I think you're assuming we do too. We don't! That's why we're the musicians! Much love, Classicalbanksy xxx

How do you choose the allocation of budget to each step? Being aware that the second and third ad will be seen by less people but are also likely to be more expensive per interaction I am struggling to understand how I should be allocating this budget. Do I put say %50 into the awareness stage then 25% into each following stage or some other ratio?
@imjustzak4 жыл бұрын
yeah this should be addressed.
@ruddbrysha14094 жыл бұрын
@@imjustzak Hello Zak I can atleast pass on my learnings here: I will start with the conclusion. It is far more expensive using this click funnel campaign to get the wanted end result. I am having far more success running 1 ad to a cold but well targeted audience and having them click through to spotify (this is averaging out at 15 cents). Onto what I did and the results; I spent $1330 aud in total $27 of that was a/b testing some of my creative. I initially budgeted 2k for this. part 1 of funnel spent $820 | 41000 thruplays part 2 $347 | 8800 thruplays part 3 $135 | 340 thruplays | link clicks = 184 at $0.74 add that all together and it cost $7.22 per final link click that is an insanely expensive result compared to what I mentioned above. Lets break this down some more: Bad song? maybe. though I also used playlist push where I landed on 10 large playlists and the song is at 6700 streams (117 in the last 7 days song was released in late july). part 1 was very successful in some ways as I had a quite funny video that got shared 60 times (44 comments, 385 likes) the targetting was a problem, I chose people in australia who have an interest in metallica (our song is clean vocals hardrock/metal) and also have an interest in spotify. sadly facebook make it too easy to be associated with something so I had too many people who only liked pop music etc. too many people who would never be interested in my music were getting caught in the first stage of the funnel. part 2 and 3 were relatively unsuccessful. you can work out your budget as you go because you can see the reach (how many unique people) and frequency (how many times) of each ad viewer. so your first part of funnel captures say 1000 people that have 75% video views the second part you can see it when just about everyone who is eligible has been served the ad and reallocate budget up the funnel to part 1 to get more people in etc and do the same with the last part. For those still reading I hope you can avoid this gross overspend on your ads and can learn from my being a guinea pig. Far better information can be found from the team over at indeprenuer. My band is called "The Fungus" you can find us on spotify youtube face insta etc if you need some proof for what I am saying above. currently we have 900 monthly listeners, 600 of which I attribute to the newer ad I am running on facebook which cost me about $380. (the newest song is called One Sign, It has been out for about 6 weeks has over 1k streams. I recommend to anyone taking the music marketing journey is to write a plan/hypothesis first and then run ad/ads according to that then see what worked what didn't and try to come up with a new stronger one for next time. It ensures you learn and your results get cheaper as you go. Good luck!
@imjustzak4 жыл бұрын
@@ruddbrysha1409 Hey man. I'm super glad you wrote this message because I actually did all 3 steps of this funnel and found it to be wayyy to expensive as well. It's very smart and sounds very good in theory. Hats off to the Burstimo team for thinking up a strategy like this, but it's actually doing people a great disservice telling them that this technique will be more effective than even just hitting the automatic button on instagram ads. You will get better results for cheaper. Thanks Rudd. I'll check it out.

@@ruddbrysha1409 Great message from you! Thanks for all this info! 💪 I really appreciate it because I'm in the middle of my "3-step funnel" campaign right now and also experiencing huge price increases for Cost-Per-ThruPlay in step two, up to 700% higher. Step three hasn't been triggered yet, as the targeted custom audience is still too small, but I assume it could get more expensive here as well 🙈 I am super confused and was wondering if I am the only one. Have also already done countless online researches. Unfortunately, I could not figure out what the problem is. At the moment I am testing a cost limit for step 2 and 3 to see if this might give better results in terms of costs, as I might not have to worry about such high costs. Of course, the overall delivery/reach of my campaign might suffer, but it's certainly worth a try - there's already too much work involved to give up now 🤯 ➡ But what I can already confirm 100% is that my campaign, where I run cold acquisition, performs much better! Cost-Per-Thruplay plus the resulting Cost-Per-Conversion are significantly lower!

Thanks for the infos, really good video. I prefere much more detailed and long video like this. I would like to ask you, should we run always ads only from Facebook? I have the most of my audience on Instagram, but I see that I can only run ads there by promoting a post and actually the procedure is too simple and only allows to boost a post. On the other hand, I could make ads from Facebook ads manager as you did, but at I wonder then if there is any situation where I should use the Instagram boost (it looks like too simple and less useful than ads manager). Thanks!

If you have a $50 budget and $5 per day ad spend: - for 5 days run the first video (spend $25) - for the next 5 retarget the engaged viewers with video 2 (spend $15) - finally, retarget for 5 days the viewers of video 1 and 2 with video 3 (spend $10) The whole process should take about 15 days. Let me know if you need free help with the ads, I have experience with fb ads croce.guido12@gmail.com
