Here comes a funny story. In certain European countries, “g” functions like “k”, for example, when I was talking about “ghost”, they thought I meant “coast”! Moreover, pronunciation of “b” sounds like “p”, and the actual “p” has become “f”! For example, comfare, filot, haffen,.......etc. I remember, once the departmental secretary was kindly showing me the huge copy-machine standing outside her office. She was explaing, “This is our coffee-machine, you put your documents here, and coffee will come out from here......” I thought, whoa, amazing European technology! Converting paper documents into coffee!

Thanks for the video. I'm German and learned with the video why the English speaking countries can't pronounce "Zahn (tooth)". The sound is formed in another place. "Z" is pronounced with t and s quickly by sliding the tongue from the upper tooth to the lower one. As I understood it, the sounds s,d,t are formed in English and the same place :)

Hi, Gabriel. I have only recently discovered your videos and would like to say thank you for creating them. I teach English and I'll be recommending your videos to those of my students who are interested in learning more about the IPA after class. If I can make a small suggestion: using minimal pairs might make the videos even better. For example, when demonstrating voicing, you could have used "fan" and "van". Also, about the letter C, another option would be "call" and "cell". That's pretty much all the improvements I can suggest, because I can see you enjoy teaching just as much as I do. Keep up the good work. =)

Hi Gabe, These are great videos! I use them with my ESL students, which really helps them understand how to pronounce English. I have two recommendations for your future videos: 1) speak just a little slower - even as an native English speaker, I find your conversation speed quite fast, so slowing down would make it easier for the ESL students to understand everything you say; 2) There is one sound that you mention in Tutorial 1 that you don't sound out - find someone to sound it out for you.

Very helpful information, which I plan to share with my students. One suggestion: the background moves so much, it is difficult to watch if you have any kind of sensitivity to movement. It was difficult for me to watch for any length of time, and had to listen more than watch. I will warn my students of this as well, in case they also have motion sensitivities. Suggestions for future videos would be to use a stationary background.

Yeah, the cleft palate is between my soft and hard. I'm not an expert on the anatomy of the mouth, so I'll just say it's in the middle center of my palate. Thank you for your response by the way, I guess I'll just have to compensate for certain sounds by positioning my articulators in a way where I can reproduce the sound as it would be pronounced in normal articulation. I'm not sure how that's going to affect certain manners like trilling(which I can't do), but I'll just try my best.
