I hope this little story can help: I was a complete dumb in English and French at school. After "studying" English for 10 years I was barely able to understand someone asking me a simple question. A couple of years after finishing school I decided to set my own method so I could do something about it, and in around a year I was pretty shocked by the results... It was just about doing everything I enjoyed, but in the target language. I just forgot about using Spanish (my 1st language) when I wanted to watch a film, read a book, I enjoyed translating songs and catching up with phonology through that... I know it sounds way too simple, but it actually works! when you forget about the learning process and you start doing everything in the target language on a daily basis you just absorb it. Now I'm able to speak 4 languages fluently, and it's an amazing feeling...All those years feeling I was a bloody retarded guy, and then, it was just about learning how to learn. Thanks for your video Emma...Big hugs to everyone ;)

I don't think these claims are for someone who doesn't know English at all or learning fro scratch, but there are people who have been studying English for years on and on and they still have a strong accent influenced by native language and want to sound better and speak more like natives and I think those can improve in a short period if they get the right advice. Accent reduction doesn't require many years.

Firstly, as a native speaker of Japanese, I am really glad that you decided to study Japanese. Thank you, Emma! Secondly, thank you for talking about this huge elephant in the room. I have been jaded about those hideous marketing tricks for a long time as well. Nobody tries to learn to play a sport or a musical instrument in a few weeks, but when it comes to learning languages, people assume (or are made to assume )that they can master their target language in such a short time.

English is my mother tongue and Hebrew is my Father's. I basically have two first languages, if that's even possible... I am now learning to become an English teacher, and I find myself finding "new words" in English each and every day! Today; for example, I've learnt _forlorn_ is another word that is similar to dreary, or lonely. Never give up hope with learning a language, or as Barak Obama used to say: "Yes we can!".

I was thought wow how could they can be afford to learn english with wicked fast in that day ?. I've been learned English for 10 years and I'm still need to learn more and more in order to be more fluence in English. I reckon learn or speaking in English in that short time is jolly hard from the beginner one and that's can be make very like not the Sharpest tool in the box for me as well if we force ourselves to getting more fluence English in jolly short time xx.

Also I try not to compare myself with other, otherwise I'll feel awful. As for these "super quick methods" I can't understand people who really believe that they can become fluent for such a short time. Even children don't learn their mother tongue so quickly. Greeting from Puerto Rico , 🇵🇷 something similar happened to me about this topic, I bought a course because in the news he said , in three months you will become fluent in English even you start since from scratch and after three months I’ve been studying English so hard and even though I not became fluent yes I understand more than before I can be able to create my own sentences when Before the course I couldn’t be able to speak, write, read but now I turning 10 months and my English is increase 📈 in incredible way thanks for my own methods as well but it’s not the level that I expected even though I’m grateful because the course for me was the based in order to keep going for my own, but yea is too annoying when people said you learn very fluent in just three months and then said something else inside the course ,it’s not fair when someone learned English with the course that I have it in less than 3 months They said lied about I learned since from scratch when actually they already having a good comprehension first and solid based about English , So I liked it so much your video and all that you said keep going to do what you do it’s was very helpful to me ,excellent video and yes I wrote it with many mistakes 😅 But it’s not easy to described many things the same than my native language and actually I start to learn and have more knowledge since 10 months ago ,arrivederci,Grazie, buona giornata

Hi dear Emma. First off all I really have to say you're a great teacher and your pretty smile makes it easier to get what you're wanting to teach us 🙂 (and yours nice red hairs ). Just compliments, I don't want to hit on you 🙂, really not but it's more pleasant to have a teacher like you than a creepy... Boris Johnson for example 🙂 I appreciated this video because you're totally right. We don't have to follow this stupid goals of this several apps saying it's possible to get fluent in a foreign language that fast. I never made me pressure on schedule to progress in English. I think I just had facilities in understanding, and recently I started to speak with natural born speakers and realized that I really moved on just listening English (yours or American) and was happy to heard of those people I'm really good for a French 🙂. My point is, as you said, I never put pressure on me to reach particularly goals and it has been naturally for me. You're really brave to start learn Japanese, for me it's like an Everst to learn a language with a totally different alphabet and sounds we're never heard. I really like you're KZbin channel, not a found on Video games so I never tried your twitch one, but I'll follow your tip for trying read or listen English contents of topics I like, science, technology, even if I know I would certainly have to search translation of specifics words hardest to get those with just the context. Please tell me what I have to improve on my sentences construction, I think I'm still thinking in French before transposed it in English. Thanks for your work, I see you're enjoying share your experience in language's learning, keep it that way. You're French secret "lover" 😃 Luc

This video hopefully educate people to think twice before investing their hardly earned money on scam marketing activities which probably ruin their confidence and ends up in depression. As you said, the marketing campaigns or tricks which has a promised results within a particular time frame is absolutely 'STUPID'. They try to exploit the demand or needs of people. I think not only in language learning but anything which has demand among people will have shady marketing manoeuvre across the globe. The tips you mentioned are really helpful, especially the second one.! Thank you Emma... :)

I really appreciate all you've share. I'm Taiwanese, and I'm a psychological counselor. I teach children English in a private tuition especially british accent. 'Pronuciation with Emma' is the most brilliant English-Teaching-video in youtube. So I share it with students. It's not just your pronunciation or video but your class can really help people 'thinking'. Even there are 12 students in one class, they got the same teacher , the same period and situation. Some of them learn quick and some are not. You're right for this 'we don't need to follow other's rule and expectation(teachers or parents). '. Then I'll encourage those students in your way. Because I think it's right.

Hello! I am Cosmin (28 years old) and I have always been among the worst in the class and I still am. I am actually the worst in class now, I am the only stupid person. "We can either go through the pain of discipline or the pain of regret, it is our choice."

Been there. It's a horrible feeling but remember that you're not stupid :)

You don't need to dissapoint about it at all, almost all japanese learn English at least during 6years in school and the result is;)By the way our pronounciation seems much similer to British english than American english so your japanese will be easy understood here.. And, we can write all things in Hiragana then learners can communicate with peaople with these limited letters. I hope you all will (re)start learning it!

I have started! ^_^ I really love learning Japanese and have even started up my own little Japanese group in my town to find people to practise with and learn from! You might like this video if you're a Japanese speaker: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pmTEnYdvpp6Aea8

"How I learned Italian in 7 days" "How I learned Korean in 2 months" and they can't even put two sentences together. Is not just the person who lies about fluency but also the people who click to that

People click it because they believe there is a quick fix. Marketing has made them believe otherwise.

Impossible to learn any language in the world in short time like 1 or 2 mouths even you learn 5 to 8 hours per day because language have rules and have different words and pronunciation, the right time is 6 mouths to one year because when we learn we have difficulty and we be annoyed, it depends to each person and how many times take it to learn everyday.

The right time is "however long it takes", not 6 to 12 months. No way.

Learning multiple languages stresses you out. They are to be learned based on your need or necessity. For example: career oriented.
