The movie version cleans up the dialogue and sharpens up the story, but its almost shot for shot. Wow.

I watched Fandango years ago, and had lost my desire to skydive, but when I realized that they did it in tandem now, I had to go try it. I have made two jumps since then, in my 60s. Great fun.

I made a road trip through SW Texas in 2006 and found Dom rock, the cemetery where they shot the fireworks, the rest area where Truman drops off the girl, the park where they hold the wedding, and the church at the end. I also found Chata Ortega's, but I'm betting it's collapsed by now. Never got to see the Donkey Lady.

Hey - we just finished the Final Fandango. It's all still there - several refinery and pump stations are encroaching, but the edifice is still there, complete with the "Groovers '71" spray paint on the inside. Go to the Ultimate Fandango 2018 FB site for more photos and GPS Pins.

Before the movie... Kevin Reynolds an a few of his USC Telecommunication major friends went to "PERRIS" and made a First Jump!! For their Big Project they came up with the idea for a Skydiving Theme ..showed up at Perris one day with clip boards in hand and "interviewed" us jumper's in the packing area and "BAR" afterward!! (Got a few notes in myself!!)Tell us the funny stuff and stuff like that... The joke about the jumper forgetting where his laundry is tops the list!! We saw "PROOF" at the DZ.. Spielberg saw it and the rest is history!!! ...skybill

It SEEMS like there used to be an "all in one" version of this on YT a few years back; but, maybe, I'm just remembering the VHS tape I had from back in the 80's... GREAT to watch it again, though, even if I did have to do so in 3 parts. The plane definitely reminded me of so many I had jumped out of "back in the day..." (A couple of which were actually nicknamed "duct tape..." Another one was nicknamed "Bubbles" ~ short for "Bubblegum and baling wire..." I had a stock reply for those who asked me why I "jumped out of perfectly good airplanes": "You've obviously never seen most of the airplanes we jump out of..." Another was "YOU try riding down with most of our jump pilots!" I was only joking on the latter, though. If I was just going up to jumpmaster a load of students, riding down back down was actually a better rush than a a low altitude solo jump; plus, I didn't have to repack before taking another load up... They tend to be "elevator operators.")

Yeah I think it could be the same plane. The car is different. Here it's a two-door, in the movie it's a four-door.

It's Allman not Almond, and yes I'm very familiar with the Allman Brothers Band. I really doubt Truman was intentionally made to look like him.

I know and have jumped Drop zones in the 70,s that did this!!! --- Back then we called Duct Tape 1,000 mph tape -- and that is Greg Almond as Truman Sparks and this is a Historical Document LMAO --- EVERY TIME Saw it first time at nationals 1980-1981 Fandango didn't come out till 1985 Give me a beer ---"Doorman" ;>D
