All PSA has to do is remove the human grading aspect. They need to upload official card reference material and use a 30mpx camera with AI to determine the grade. 6s and 7s will become much more common and turn around time will increase astronomically. In this day and age it really doesn’t make sense to have anything graded by a person who follows their bias of choice. Grading the card strictly off the reference material is a fool proof way of exactifying card quality.

Yeah it would solve a lot of issues with human error and bias. I really believe newer sets have a less chance of getting a 10. Because everyone is sending in fresh out the pack cards, and overwhelming them with 100s of the same card in near mint condition, and of course no matter how nice they are PSA isn't going to give out 100s of 10s and flood the market. So they have to be very picky about which ones they choose, and many 10s will get a 9 just so that doesn't happen. But if you send in a card that's 15 years old they will be more impressed that an old card has been kept in mint condition all those years, and because there aren't dozens to grade all at once they can give it a 10 without worrying about flooding the market. Of course this is purely speculation but it makes sense.

Honestly it would make PSA obsolete if there was software where you could just take a photo of your card and the software determines its condition. The only thing PSA would be good for at that point is just having name recognition... which isn't even a trustworthy name brand at this point.

But ai is not advanced enough yet. Some cards have certain surfaces which AI picks up as flaws even though it is design. At the end of the day a system using both ai and human interaction is needed. But no matter what errors will happen

Little late but I found out they were handing out 5's as like a default grade just to pump through a lot of cards to get caught up. I kept getting back 5's on obvious 10's so I started going through Ebay buying up a lot of 5's for pennies that looked mint, cracked and regraded them all and they all came back 9's and 10's. I found over 40 cards like that (including a PSA 5, 1st edition Neo Genesis Lugia) and made so much profit. That well has dried up these days but always check your 5's it seems to be the default grade they slap on there when they don't even look at the card.

Similar happened to me. Card came back a 2 and resubmitted and it received an 8. I think they are just passing cards through and giving random 2's and 5's just to clear the backlog. They aren't grading the cards. They really don't care because you pay full price and pay again if you resubmit. This "non grading" policy is definitely happening. I saw this happen to another KZbinr. His card was pristine,easily 9 or 10 and it came back a 2. The grading industry needs to be regulated.

Every time i come across a grading thread, literally no one talks about how easy it is to swap your card for a lesser grade. I mean like honestly, there is no freaking way to even identify your specific card from the rest (like a unique serial number, bar code, QR Code), nothing. That's why I've never sent off a card for that reason alone. you are never going to have a perfect grader company. Depends on who grades the card, are they new to the job or have they done it years and hate it so rush and don't check carefully, Is it a woman grading it? does the grader has bad eye sight but didn't inform employer due to fear of job loss, did someone just have a bad day, was depressed and rushed through stuff, maybe the guy grading the card gets pleasure out of been a dick and intentionally giving lower scores. I think you can get at best 80-90% grading accuracy

I'm pretty much DONE with PSA. First, I was never into getting my cards graded until a new local card shop popped up right by my house. Since then I've sent in a few cards through them. Long story short, out of the cards I've sent in I've received 2 10s, 9 9s, and even 2 8s! The 9s and 8s literally went from pack to sleeve to PSA. One of the 10s was a Harper refractor rookie that I picked up off the floor after it sat unnoticed for years. And one of the 8s was a Bryce Young SP auto /25. And One 9 was a FLAWLESS Urshifu rare art. PSA is dead to me. I can't figure out where they see any imperfections and you've just showcased some sort of bias or major problem within their ranks.

Now, the shenanigans with the 5 -> 10 is nuts, and I am... not surprised, because I've never believed in/trusted these grading systems to begin with. With that said, those first couple of cards have very obvious asymmetry/inconsistency in their border sizes/centering. That's one of the criteria they check, isn't it? If I can see it in a KZbin video, not in full-screen, on a fuzzy CRT monitor, then I think it's safe to say they glanced at it, and were, like, "Yeah, we can see that inconsistency from space". ... Or maybe not. Maybe they have a random number generator, and they just hit a button before they go out to Subway for lunch. (I don't respect Subway as a restaurant, so that's a jab, by the way.)

Cracked them, sent them, all came back 9 or 10s. That was it for me with psa and cards period just seen enough. Hobbie was fun but with such a huge price difference raw vs graded it doesn't make sense to spend the money and not get accurate grades. Feel like they just randomly slap numbers on some stuff. I have a PSA 4 that looks nearly flawless… I’ve definitely thought of cracking it and submitting for a better grade… Wild!

imo if you are paying to have a card graded, they should be providing you some kind of break down of what were problem spots the inspectors found, as this would prove they are even accurately grading these cards. for one thing, i suspect they do these lower grades on higher grade cards, to tempt you to crack them open and pay to have them regraded. i suspect it is part of all of these "grading companies" business models smh.

I’ve always seen PSA as lower quality since covid happened. Idk if they just realized they can make more moneg by false grading or something but ive seen way to many shit cards be 9s and to many mints be 5s or 6s (I buy a lot of them nd then grade them w beckett) I actually got one PSA 5 shining mewto and then got a 9 on Beckett) like makes 0 sense

You should have marked the cards so we would know they were the same ones from before.

Heres a thought.. since theyre now serialized.. what if they grade them lower and have someone come buy them from you whenever they hit the market. They'll regrade it knowing its an actual 10 and not a 5 or 6. Pocketing hella money. Ya never know! People will be people. Good and evil does exist.

Just so everyone is aware. Pokemon cards are printed by the millions. They come out at light speed from printing machine and 99% of them are flawless. The fact they grade the vast majority not 10s when taken care of because of defects says all you need to know. Printing defects are extremely rare. To the point where in reality defects should fetch more from scarcity. PSA is stealing your money right from under your nose

All grading companies are bent! It's a shame they hold the key to a pokemon cards value. It just depends what the grader feels like on the day and if he got lucky last night. I bet if you keep paying and re entering them you could get them to an 8

Youd think a company by now would just have machines that the employees put the cards in to that scans for any defects on the card and gives it a grade. This human error that suddenly makes a 10 card a 5, and vice versa, is ridiculous for a service youre paying for.

Not a surprise, maybe years back when PSA was establishing themselves as #1, they had a clear focus and FAR MORE QUALIFIED individuals grading, now its a crapshoot and the majority of people who collect for a living and truly care could grade more consistently and accurately. Its always been laughable to me, ive done the same thing multiple times, wrote them about the ridiculousness of it and it just goes unanswered and wont change until people collectively put pressure on them to do so.
