I was watching a video from Jesse the other day where he was talking to a Silat master who said something along the lines of "if you are going to run away you have to cause at least one attacker maximum harm before running to slow down the group" and that was the first realistic explanation of how to run from a fight I have ever heard. Though even then there are of course some that can't be escaped from due to the particular environment or situation the fight starts in.
