A couple years ago I successfully rooted two lavender plants after following these instructions. Just came back for a refresher as I plan to do it again.

Very cool. I did this with Lavender this past spring with zero experience. Instead, I just stuck em right in the ground at my grandma's house. Gave her four with the thought that only one would grow for her, but they all did with very little care.

I am the lavender destroyer. I made so many mistakes I had to go buy new lavender because I had nothing left. Now that I know how to kill lavender I have better idea how not to. I will try your method of growing cuttings. Thanks :)

Lol sounds like me with all my plants lol
@aspirativemusicproduction21358 жыл бұрын
Manifesting Moni Now I plant them in pine bark mulch and have no casualties. Potting soil mix is not good since it has too much pit moss which works for big time moisture loving plants but not for most. Try pine bark. It's cheep and it eventually turns into soil unlike wood chip mulch which stays the same for very long time. I have most of my plants planted in pine bark now because it works. I hope this helps with growing herbs. You can use your dried out flowers as medium to grow plants. I use heavy soil for tomatoes because they grow faster in such but I still mix it with mulch. Bottom line: bark mulch is better than potting mix :)

Thank you for your great advice. I have had great success growing lavender in Maine in gravel rich areas and cover with clean sand in the winter. When I clear away the sand in the late spring I get plenty of stems that have roots which I can snip off and pot up and nurture till they go into a new spot.

Alright, this was the most usefull tutorial on multiplying lavender I've seen so far, but I still have some questions. 1. How often do you water them after you make the cuttings? Do you keep them damp, wet, or do you let the soil dry out? 2. How long do you need to keep them in the house (in the same temperature)? When are they ready to go out to the garden? 3. If you make the cuttings in march, can you plant them to your garden the same year? Summer, autumn, or do you need to wait till the next spring?
@Growyourheirlooms6 жыл бұрын
1) I keep them moist but not soaking wet until I see growth (usually within a few weeks). Letting them dry out will stop root growth. 2) They stayed in the greenhouse until I saw significant growth on them. 3) My plants went out in June into my raised beds once warm weather is going good and temps don't get too low at night (above 50). So yes, the same year.

Do you have a new and recent picture of your new little 6 plants? Curious to see how they did. I bought two lavender plants earlier this year and I've planted them and let them flourish and do their thing. This coming Spring, I want to propagate from the cuttings and hopefully get a few more. Mosquitoes HATE Lavender (and lemongrass btw) and I want them all over my back porch haha. But, Lavender is expensive and I want to just keep spreading them until I'm at a number I like.

I just grabbed a full-bloom 'cutting' from a bush that had been run over in a chick-filet parking lot. I got a large piece full of new growth and wood. Should I scrape bark off the wood and use rooting hormone, or cut off young pieces, clip the flowers off, and just put those in?

+Grow Your Heirlooms thanks for your reply! I have a pot of lavendar which I watered too much. The bottoms are black and spreading up. I tried to save it by getting rid of the soil, soak the roots with water and wash it abit. I also snip of most of the black leafs and then repot the plant. I'm trying to propagate the cuttings in case the whole root system fails. I didn't cut off the roots as I duno which are the good and bad roots. =( and I'm afraid the plant plant will die if I cut off all the roots =/

My landlord has a beautiful lavender plant that she's grown for years, but never propogated it. I'd love to ask her for a cutting, but have NEVER asked for anything like that. 1) How would you ask? 2) How many cuttings should I ask for?
@Growyourheirlooms8 жыл бұрын
+Jennifer W For me, it's easy to ask. When I come across something I love, I always praise the owner and tell them I just adore the plant and would love to take a few cuttings. If you take 3 or 4 cuttings, at least 1 or 2 should take. Believe it or not, most people are actually flattered that you love their plant so much. I know I am when people ask. I'm always happy to oblige and share the joy.
@chawntelh8 жыл бұрын
I would just say, "I love your plant, could I possibly take a cutting to propagate." Then reassure them, if they don't know that taking a "cutting" isn't going to harm their plant. It's very easy to grow a cutting, I did it by accident as a child, so anyone can do it. Good luck and I hope she gives you a cutting :)

@xxmaybememoriesxx66710 жыл бұрын
could be the honey. most honey is not real honey, contains no pollen, and is just corn syrup. buy a good organic honey. it work and is naturally antiseptic so it will kill any bad bacteria. you really don't need either honey or root hormone. just root in water, keep the water clean/fresh, some can take weeks to months to root depending on the plant, some only a few days to a week.
