Thank you! Just got back from a walk in a nearby park where I spotted a HUGE, great smelling honeysuckle bush (more like a tree, it was about 12 ft tall!), I decided “I want some of that at my house”, so snapped off a small limb & took it home, but had no idea what to do with it. So this video is very helpful. Thanks!

I questioned, at first, the delivery and content of this video. Decided to stick around to see where it takes me and was not disappointed. The delivery was slow and methodical, so even I could follow and understand. Content is sufficient also. Now I am the point where I need to decide to either take the cutting and grow it from scratch or take the 2 gal bucket with fairly mature plant.

Did you use secateurs because you were working one handed? Any thoughts about whether a knife is better? I know a garden with three different honeysuckles in, all need pruning, might have to give this a go.
@1963impala2drWaylonWire10 жыл бұрын
yes, I did it that way because I was holding the camera.. i should have set it on a tripod but there are a lot of things that I "should" do which youtubers are very quick to point out! haha. yes, you can use a knife or gnaw them off.. whatever you prefer, just cut right through the node because that is where all the carbohydrates are stored in order to force growth so that is where they will readily root as well. thanks for watching :)
@harryfaber10 жыл бұрын
Gnaw them off? Ok, hahaha. When I was a kid, the guys from our local 'horticultural society' would get in serious arguments about taking fuschia cuttings, whether you should 'slice with a knife' or use a razor blade. I can't remember the best answer, but I do remember the heated arguments!

I'd have to watch the video to know exactly what you are referring to but I think you mean the humidity paddle switch..the little screen paddle that loads up with water and the weight of it triggers the switch turning the water off.. I bought that at a nursery supply place that is near here.. I built the heat table with the hot water heater , manifolds, black hose etc... sure appreciate you watching... take care! and if you need one of those humidity switches..I can get the info for you..
@HisWordisLife4U7 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your reply. I am not as advanced as you. We have so many wild little animals here, I am thinking of growing edibles in a hoop house. I haven't built it yet, but plan to very soon. Setting up an automatic watering system would be ideal. That humidity paddle switch is genius. I will have to get one later. Thanks.

Thanks, I learned a few things. I have an overgrown Coral Honeysuckle in a 1o gallon pot on my balcony that was so overgrown, root-bound and starving fot new soil. Because its eoven into a macrame net frame I have to cut the branches just a few inches of the pot. I needed to make sure I got plenty of successful starts in case the mother plant doesn't survive the transplant.😬 I do have B1 on hand to aid with shock. I appreciate your information very much.

A quick funny story...Our bedroom has a bay window and my wife wanted me to scoot the bed right under that window. She wanted me to plant honeysuckle right under the bedroom window so she could wake up to the the wonderful smell. It worked for a short while...until one morning when I saw one of my dogs walk right in front of our window and would pee on the honeysuckle right under our window..and the smell drastically changed. Then my wife told me to mow over the honeysuckle so she wouldn't wake up to fresh dog pee smell every morning. LOL
