if you're in any sort of planty group, like on facebook for example, make a post for people to come pick up the tangled mess of string of hearts cuttings, that way you don't have to deal with them and someone who really wants the plant is gonna be really happy!

G'day Tate, When you cut your strings, you picked them up and put them top to tail. No problem if you are laying on soil but if you put them in water, half are the wrong way up. Also, prop box works best laying plants on top of media. Putting them under may cause rot issues. Also, try perlite as media in prop box. I seem to have better results with it compared to moss. Good luck with them. Good to see you back. Cheers from Bushie.

they do have nodes and next to the nodes under the sheath..youll see the aux buds where they skipped a leaf..thats where the new leaf will come out of if chopped.

String of hearts vines can go in a plastic bag wet. They will grow roots on thier nodes and you can deal later....you did add water, the condensation may be enough from the paper towel.

Love your videos Tate!!! I cannot wait to see updates on all the props from today! My decursiva started to put out a runner, so I attached it to a bamboo pole to start to grow up (I know it is a crawler and not a climber) but after 3 skipped nodes, it just put out a beautiful split leaf and a large aerial root and has another leaf on its way! 🪴😃

I saw an inspiration post on IG where they wrapped the string of hearts around a heart trellis. I copied and now the hearts are not dangling in the way and are getting growth so going well so far.

I've chopped my runners from my scindapsus and it took a couple months, but they have sprouted leaves! :)

I think I would have experimented with air layering for runners instead of chopping. Get a separate pot of appropriate soil, wind the runners in a coil around the surface of the soil, burying the nodes slightly in, pinning them down with "U" shaped Bobby pins that you can find at daiso, and spray to keep the surface moist.

My decursiva is doing the exact same thing, although it looks to have a growth point right at the tip, so I have air layered the nodes with sphagnum and once the roots start going I will chop and prop.

it looks like you have put half of your chain of hearts cuttings upside down, and it is not very good, at least we will see if all of them will root or not !

Half of your hearts are upside down!

It doesn’t matter which direction they are as long as a rhizome is in the water they’ll grow
@HuskyStories2 жыл бұрын
If u cut the end of the runner by the last node that runner will push out leaves and become a long trailing pice.

With the string of hearts, I think I would cut it into smaller strands as I untangled, maybe 🤔

I'd be worried about rotting with the wet sticks buried in the moss - I've always put mine on the surface - but curious to see how it works out!

Any advice on a variegated string of hearts? I bought a small vine that was “rooted” once I repotted it was not rooted. I’ve tried propagating it and it route slightly but still seems to die would love advice
@shasty69282 жыл бұрын
Butterfly clippings (clippings with just 2 leaves and the node) I rooted a whole pot of soh with this method and it worked very well. Just stick the cuttings node side down into a pot of soil (watered thoroughly) cover with something clear to allow light through (I used a clear glass pie pan lol) and they should root pretty quickly. Or if you have a terrarium or cloche of some sort use that. ( even a clear plastic ziplock bag will work in a pinch) Prefer this method with soh to water prop by far. You shouldn't need to water this pot until they are well rooted, at least in my experience. I only watered the one initial time and left it alone in my window sill. Good luck 🌱
