@@vanniyo8988 i dillute potassium all the time for plants, never had it catch on fire lol
@lchaddy90132 жыл бұрын
@@bobrobertsNotUrBob you’re probably using potassium nitrate, which is a common fertilizer. They are talking about potassium metal, which is pure potassium. Potassium (K) will displace one of the H’s in water. Water is made of 2 H’s and an O. Water is set up like H-OH. Adding K, like KH-OH will kick out the first H. So it’s now H2 (an H from H-oh and an H from K) and KOH separately. This reaction forms hydrogen gas (the H2) and it creates a lot of energy, and it causes an explosion.

That makes sense. All plants release hormones, most of which can interact with other species. Since pothos are notoriously fast rooters, they would be able to release that hormone into the water faster than other plant cuttings. Random thing: I remember a study done on some plant that releases a stress hormone to other plants nearby when it got munched on by beetles. They played the noise of the crunching to the plants are they still released to hormone! Plants are awesome.

Personally,the clones I have went directly into dirt,and it was premium potting mix with fertilizer added.and I have had complete success so far,with all clones surviving and producing roots.and thinking on it,only thing that I can say is the main reason this worked is those roots had like this video, nutrients to help produce roots,moisture and also the air I mentioned from the airated soil.i really think the right combination of those three things is key to cloneing plants,even if it's useing water as a medium.

I do this every year with cuttings from my pothos plants and wanted to ask if it makes a difference in how many plant cuttings you place in a bottle? @eljay_h Жыл бұрын
I find adding food to the water is great to start them, but after a while it just goes gross and the abundance of nutrients becomes too much. Tried with adansoni too and even small amounts turned the leaves yellow. But definitely great for starting pothos! 👌
@altdeadpool85092 жыл бұрын
Wow that was definitely extreme! I'm gonna have to get a hold of some of that. I wonder how it would be with added nutrients as it did seem to effect the original leaves a lot negatively, although it could be because it purposefully shut off the flow of nutrients to the original leaves to concentrate the growth to the roots and new growth. Definitely worth adding to my existing potted plants too.

If your going to go to the trouble to get a nute solution to root them in,you may as well toss in an air stone to pump more o2 into the water to turbo charge those roots.i mean the whole idea is to give those plants every possible chance to propagate that we can give them.we know those roots need oxygen and an air pump and air stone is a cheap easy way to get that done,and if they got nutrients to use to grow better,then give em the air to keep up with the additional growth

I was specifically looking for info on using a fertilizer to propagate because I've decided to try something new. Usually I will put cuttings just in water until I begin seeing roots (maybe about a cm) and then transfer it to well watered soil, trying to avoid the problems with acclimating water propagations. They still end up very droopy and shocked for a while...my new idea is to start the same. I'll use just water until I see roots (because I've noticed the START of roots goes much more quickly in water props) and then transfer to a prop box I am setting up with perlite. I wasn't sure if I should add fertilizer and after your video I think I'm at least going to try it! We will see....

Algae growth is an indicator if there's too much nutrients in the water. Probably a minuscule amount of nutrient would do the job. I wonder if just adding one macro nutrient would do the job. Like just calcium nitrate. Or potassium sulphate. Probably phosphoric acid would be ideal because phosphorus is the key ingredient for root growth

What are your thoughts/experiences with using cinnamon/molasses as a plant food?
@TechplantChannel4 жыл бұрын
never tried it but i hear cinnamon is good for antifungal treatments!

I sometimes water my plants with molasses, I'm shocked there aren't more videos with people experimenting with it
@mairwaugus52033 жыл бұрын
I haven't heard anything about molasses. What is your basis?

So I have a question but it concerns what you said about your carnivorous plants, I thought that they got the fertilizer from the bugs, so I have never given them anything else. Could I give mine an organic fertilizer, fish emulsion without having to worry about it killing them ?
@TechplantChannel4 жыл бұрын
i made a video about how i feed them in the past, since mine are indoors they dont get many bugs ( olny fungus gnats ) whatever you do, dont put the fertilizer in the soil/substrate it will kill them! Make sure you put the fertilizer on the leaves!

@@TechplantChannel could I spray them with orchid plant food mist? I need to find your video about it. Thank you so much . The plants are actually my daughters and I'm just trying to help her out some, since they don't seem to be thriving

I will be trying this, amazing results! I'm not sure if you can help, but this is the first place I've seen similar growth to my own plant. - I am propagating a monstera albo from a leaf, but it doesn't seem to have any roots forming(its been in the water for 1 month), but it looks like it is growing a 'spike' I think you called them similar to the pothos in this video. Is that normal? I just don't want it to die, but not sure if theres anything else I can do XD
@TechplantChannel4 жыл бұрын
Ive heard Albos are hard, I have never had one before so im no expert. BUT ive seen a lot of people keep them in a bag or humidity dome with perlite and wet sphagnum moss pure water freaks me out because i feel like its always teetering on not enough oxyegen for the plant and then it starts dying and rotting.

I have home made seaweed liquid fertilizer, you think I can use that?

I was just googling to find what (if any) fertilizer to put in the water. Do you have any idea what chemical are you using? I have nitrogen fertilizers as well as sources of magnesium and potassium and also end-consumer mix for houseplants. I am not sure what chemicals do the plants need to start the roots.

What about aquarium fertilizer? Like aquarium co-op's all in one fert?

Please do this exact experiment with a Monstera!! xx

i almost have enough where i can start experimenting with them. Usually it takes me like a year to build up stock if that makes sense.

I've been trying to combat root rot with my monstera, so I've got them sitting divided in 2 opaque buckets and change the water every couple of days. At times I add a bit of peroxide and others, cinnamon powder. I was thinking of trying your Maxsea but not sure which concentration to choose. Any advice? I LOVE your shirt, BTW!

an NPK of 16-16-16 seems kinda strong (in my biased opinion)

its pretty diluted by the time it gets added to the propagation

You be interested in a private consultation? I'm building a small terrarium that I'm going to scale up to a room terrarium. My wife has been bed ridden for 4 years and only sees the outside 5 or so times a year. I want to bring the outside inside. I'm going to be using Arduino and sensors to collect data and then I'm going to use that data for another experiment and to help with designing the automation system as I want to simulate rain and control the lighting to match the actual sun, moon and it's timeline. Make sense? I just need some questions answered and I'm having a hard time getting ppl to respond. You may get some ideas from my plans too.

i could help a little with the Arduino stuff. but Ive never built a terrarium before. So i really dont know much about care for them. I would recomend going on facebook and joining terrarium and vivarium groups, there are people that are A LOT more knowledgeable than me on those topics. IF you wanna reach out tho you can hit me up techplant.official@gmail.com

@@TechplantChannel awesome. So here is my email. I'm going to be disclosing some elements that must remain under wraps as I'm hoping to market this as a package deal for everyone in the next year or so. Jvonirsik@gmail.com just reach out to me when you are free and I'll send you the info and questions. I have a lot of info on the terrarium build but plants......not really my thing. I think you will be really excited once you see the schematics of the actual build. Thank you again and great channel. My wife is going to love this and I truly believe others will to.

i think any really diluted fertilizer would work, but when you do it do some in regular water just in case it doesnt work out for oyu
