I made the mistake of claiming the right of way with a truck - he was at a stop sign trying to turn right- i was on the sidewalk on an adult trike going straight across without a stop signal of any kind. He was crowding me all the way across while his 'co-pilot' leered at me. Please keep making your videos - they renew my riding spirit, which at my age needs serious support.

This is so great! City biking can be scary, but never underestimate the impact you can have on other people simply by showing them that it can be done! I think these rolling interviews, as you called it, are a great idea. I don’t think you need a car in NYC. I worked there for a while back in the 90s and I loved it, but you don’t need a car and a bicycle or an e-bike is so much better. NYC does have a unique energy as you say, it is unlike any other US city. I’m in Brighton, south of London. I lived in London for many years actually. You don’t need a car in London or Brighton as the public transport is good enough.

@@Koen030NL I use my ebike for commuting. I got to ride uphill in the morning, which would not work with a normal bike. I mean I can get up the hill, but I don’t have a shower at work, so that’s no option if I have to meet with clients or coworkers. Without the ebike my only other option is my car.

Very nice episode. Thr running dialog/discussion was great! I'm glad to see the ebike passion is spreading. I'm a recent convert, and find the ebilke is great for keeping us 'older' folks active. I've got a compact Tern and use it while RVing. It's great for exploring parks and neighborhoods, and running to laundromats and grocery stores. Fewer car trips is a good thing on several fronts.

I have a mid-tail cargo bike on order for me and my daughter. I am way out of practice (like decades) so I have been using Citi Bike to brush up on my skills. The first time, I fell twice and crashed into my son's bike once. The second time I was scared to start but did a lot better. I was feeling discouraged, especially watching a video of someone so confidently riding with a child on the street, which I can't imagine, but then you mentioned falling and needing practice and it made me feel better. :) I just wish Citi Bike covered my neighborhood. I have to take a train to practice biking.

But more importantly because of being on the bike the interaction she has with the community around her. great video of how family city biking can be done. I live in Calgary, Ab. I have owned an electric conversion to a mountian bike to be able to tow a trailer to get my son to day care and to get groceries. That set up did not work well in deep snow or either the lithium battery would die or the tires on the trailer would go flat. I then bought a masden bike with a rear bucket. It did not like snow either so when my son was in grade 1, I bought a Yuba Mondo cargo bike and that has been my sole transportation since for twelve years. Yes sometimes it was difficult to pack my son in when it was minus 25 and be able to get him to day care but not having the expense of a car has allowed me to live comfortably on one income.

@Propelbikes
@Propelbikes 3 жыл бұрын
I think there are two primary reasons, culture and infrastructure. The love affair with the car started in LA and so did the highways. I think SoCal is beginning to learn that might have given up a good thing when they tore up their renowned bike lanes and got rid of the street cars. It’s not easy to come back from that. It seems that there is definitely a dissenting group favoring the bike and it’s growing all the time. It’s gotten a big shot in the arm and I’m optimistic it will hold.

Quick idea storming session, so with the new mass numbers of people from using bikes and things for their daily life, I’m beginning to realise the great idea of having a utilising tool like a cargo bike or ebike readily available. The convenience of having it as soon as it’s needed, with very humanitarian immersing ways of getting to places is noticeably better for the local environment and communities. So here’s my idea: setup a similar thing to Cargoroo Public Hire cargobikes, which operate on the same bike that the Novich family uses in this video, to be setup at somewhere like the Moynihan Train Hall or outside of a major train station. The best thing with these ridecasts is that the spontaneous interaction provides for amazing advocating - that much that when organised into a playlist to give to a potential audience, they’re great at persuading people to think about how we can revolutionise our lives. (bare in mind I don’t live in the states, I live the other side of the Atlantic, so the logistics of me being involved directly with the installation of this would not be feasible, However would still be awesome to do)

The sharrow marks lanes that are both for cars and bikes, which is a way to say it's a lane just for cars. It's one step below not having bike infrastructure at all. A sharrow only works on a street with very little traffic where cars don't want to go faster than 15-20 mph anyway. Otherwise the performance envelope isn't compatible. A long john cost enough that if you have to ask how much they cost you probably can't afford one. Long John bikes frequently have a reclined seat tube, so the rider can reach the ground from the seat to help stabilize a tall heavy load. Such as are found on long tail bikes, which normally have steep seat tubes for a high riding position. They really need lower seats so the rider doesn't fall over at stops.

I live in central PA, very suburban area. I just drove my SUV to Harbor Freight to buy a chain saw, about three miles from home. Could I have gone on a cargo bike? Probably right? Is this the future?

My town recently maintained the traffic lights at the entrance to my housing estate from a major 4 lane tributary into the centre of town. They provided a stop space for bikes. There's no way I'd consider riding on that road as its too busy and too fast.

I love the videos and the information is great. One concern is that I do not see featured people in the videos wearing bike helmets.

In Belgium babies are allowed to ride a bicycle at 6 month when they can sit and support their neck. It is also about schocks that bicycles give. Not many cargo bikes have suspension. Cars are mostly softer with suspension. But if you havé that And maybe the maxi cosi adapter had some suspension or something it would be no problem

On your point asking why nobody talks on the subway 9:12 : approaching people in a confined space with no immediate exit makes people feel forced to interact while on a bike it feels much more like an invitation. Feels like this is one of the hidden benefits of biking.
