PROPER 12 VS. JAMESON!!

I did the Jameson distillery tour in Ireland while I was living there for school, heres some things I learned. When you are having a drink and trying to pick apart the taste a small splash off water. During the free tasting at the distillery they took a cap from a normal 120z plastic water bottle, filled it with water and put it in the Jameson. It didn't ruin the whiskey but made it easier to distinguish and enjoy the different flavors in the drink. There was also a station which compared Irish whisky with American (Jameson and Jack Daniels). The tour guide said Jameson had vanilla and fruity notes while Jack had sweet and perfumed. The difference is because American whiskey is aged in new barrels while Jameson is aged in reused barrels that contained wine/liquors before hand. I don't know much about whisky as I'm new to drinking them but that information is from The Jameson Distillery in Ireland so take it or leave it haha. Cheers

No hate but just wanted to clear something up..Whiskey isn't made in new barrels (although it can be). As far as American whiskey goes it's typically made with reused barrels. Bourbon is the only thing that must be made with a new barrel. Just thought I'd help. My information comes from tours I took in Kentucky at Jim Beam and Buffalo Trace about 10 days ago.

Very well done. Needed a regular guy review of these two as I relatively started only choosing Jameson as my whisky of choice rather than jack Daniels honey and I thought about trying the infamous ones infamous whiskey but I’ve grown very found of good ol Jamey and I’m afraid to wast my time and money on something new over something tested and true. Think I’ll always prefer Jamey but I may try a sample bottle of he prop if I can find one at my local state store.

I love jameson, but let's give Proper some dues here. Side by side, Proper had a little more zip to it than my bottle of Jameson. Every bottle is a little different, including Jameson. They are both fine sipping whiskies!

I was about to call bullshitting on the "rubber" smell, but then I smelled the single shot bottle of it and I guess you could convince me it smells that way but when I tried it it tasted sweet in the wrong way and turns in my stomach

I currently have 3 bottles of whiskey opened in my house. Walker black label, Crown, and Proper 12. From my experience tasting them one after the other I can say proper 12 is the weakest tasting. Its decent but not great. Black label and crown royal are definitely bolder tasting and darker in color. Proper 12 is nice to drink and smooth but overall not amazing. I wouldn't expect it to last in stores for many years to come like other brands.

Mike Stanek I found it to be better than Jameson which has become a very popular whiskey so I tend to think it will perform well within the Irish whiskey category. You are right though. There are certainly better whiskeys out there, even in the same price range.

Well considering crown is more than twice the price, you cant beat proper 12 on that. But crown 100% tastes better, crown is my favorite alcoholic beverage.

Crown royal is thrash dood ! But black label is a 12 year aged Scotch you can't compare aged Scotch to Irish whiskey
