Street food abroad can be the very best, but you also need to be more than aware that many cultures don't use hygenic practices like England when preparing the food beforehand. I've seen pots being washed on the streets in dirty water, men using their feet to make doughs for chapatis or breads, raw foods touching cooked foods, no gloves and filty hands etc etc. We tend to usually see the end result of the ingredients already in containers waiting to be cooked on a stall. But no doubt it tastes brilliant until later when the bowels of hell breaks loose or worse. I'm just very careful where I eat when abroad now. Would love to visit Thailand, always great to see glimpses of it in the videos.

Hey DJ that was your best vid yet. I loved that you went down the alleys where others don't go and sampled the local food with the local people. It was really interesting. You can visit Bangkok or anywhere and get a decent breakfast in the Hilton and yes you know what you are getting and yes you are unlikely to be poisoned but you going off piste was a really great watch. Keep em coming.

You need to use Google translate on your phone camera. Just point it at the thai writing and it will translate into English for you. Saved me so many times in Thailand.

Great to see you enjoying the local food, eating with and what the locals eat. You must try a variety of freshly cut tropical fruits (starfruit, jackfruit, papaya, rambutan, mangosteen, even the dreaded durian). Such a range of sweet and exotic flavours.

Great video btw its so good to see a Brit reviewing food abroad and not at a resort trying British food. Ive been to Thailand and thats the best way to do it see how the locals live. I also lived in China for years and their street food too is fantastic,,.. bbqs on the street summer-winter. Compared to the price of food in the UK, we are certainly ripped off. You get value for money in Asia unlike the UK and Europe where it is so expensive. You should download a language app helping you translate from and to Thai by voice activation, its free too.

Darren, here's my tip with dealing with the sweltering heat in Thailand, get a face cloth ,wet it, rinse it out then put it in a freezer bag, put it in your fridge overnight, then when you leave your hotel to go off exploring put it in your backpack,then you can give your face a quick refresh when you overheat !!

I was in Thailand over 30 years ago and I had the same attitude as you, I ate all my food from the street vendors because that’s where the locals ate, thought if it’s good enough for them then it’s good enough for me and it was amazing 😊

Top vlog Darren,. Crocs by the way are a liability (unless you put the strap at the back (sports mode) but even then a trip hazard). They were in fashion about 15 years ago but for some reason came back. Nurses love them but walking around streets or a beach.... nahhhhh.

I live in Jomtien about a 10 min bus ride to Pattaya. I live in a condo on a complex with a pool bar resturants on site rent electic water Wifi about 200 pound a month

Great episode - Chinatown in Bangkok is like a city within a city. I have been visiting Thailand since the 1960s as a expat school boy. It never gets boring and is always exciting. You mention Mark Waims - you should visit his own restaurant in Bangkok. Going back to the 1990s I remember visiting Keith Floyd’s restaurant in Phuket/ Chang Mai - sadly like most of his restaurants very entertaining but did not last very long. One of my favourite restaurants in Bangkok and Chang Mail is/ was cabbages and condoms originally opened by ex mister of health to promote use of condoms. Food is not the very best but great atmosphere.🎉🎉🎉 I look forward to seeing your visit to Chang Mai.

You can really get a lot for your Money in Thailand. The Food and Choice of different Dishes looks absolutely Gorgeous. This is the Perfect way to see the Street Food and Try anything that looks Enticing to You. I would Try anything and make it a Mystery for me. I really Love Thai Food. I think it was some sort of squash Allan,here where I live there are bottle squashes, long squash,Kabocha squash,all sorts,and when you cook them they look like the vegetable on his plate.They are rather tasteless so they often use them in highly spiced dishes.My friends love them with shrimp.
